I listen to all music open-minded.
I can't think of one album since 2000 that DESERVES to be a best seller.
Good music will be paid for.
I used to buy an album (record then c.d.) a week throughout the 70's & 80's but since the mid 90's I buy maybe one every 2-3 months .
There is very little new exciting music out there.
Very sad really.

Well, it more complicated than MP3's. That may be part of it, but you also have to account how far each consumer dollar is being spread these days. Video Games, DVD's, $10 Movies.....on and on and on. The majority of music in the past has been supported by youth. Now the youth are turning their attention to other things........it's just cultural evolution.
By the way, MP3's and CD's suck balls. Buy a ******' record player.

i agree with the 'it's more complicated than that' theory
a number of things may have motivated the sales of a number of the albums on the list (celine dion, i'm looking at you (titanic))
i also think there is more variety about, so it's more difficult for one album to be 'the must buy'
don't forget that in ye olden days, we did have cassette tapes to record off radios with.

Very likely since people can now just download the songs they want without buying the whole album.

Well, that and people like me who like REAL rock music. I buy what I already have on vinyl on CD's and on The internet. I do not mind paying people for their work. But, mostly, I would not pay for the music being put out these days! Once again "It is not that I am old! YOUR MUSIC REALLY DOES SUCK!"
