Well the most important thing you need is health insurance. Exaine the coverages and costs from your employer and future spouses employer.
You may have some life insurance through your employers but may want some more if you have children or a mortgage. In total you will want to leave your family about 7-9 years of your income. Life insurance is tax free and payable in a lump sum so consider this as well.
If you can increase your disability through the employer that is a plus . Also your auto policy gives a weekly amount for injuries from a car accident..i always increase this number a littlebit because it is cheap and also one of the most common disabilities.
dont overload with insurance, stay within your budget and definitely get healthcare insurance.

There are 2 types. If you have assets and borrow money for those assets, you are required to have insurance -- houses, cars, boats.
For personal, there is health insurance and life insurance (optional and depends on your age). Most employers offer some form of health insurance and you have to pay part of it. If you are in your 20s and 30s, there is almost a waste of money to life insurance unless you are married and you want to protect the family-- in fact, lots of "friends' want to sell your life insurance.

Need health insurance. If you plan on having a family you want life insurance, God forbid something happens you want to know your spouse and child will not be in the poor house. If your not planning on having children you need at least enough coverage for final expences.

my insurance has always been through the jobs that I've held...so look into your job options and find out what insurance coverages they offer.

I don't know of any "law" that says you must have insurance to get married.
