This needs some background, so here goes. My husband and I have pretty much settled on the name Cameron for our little girl (Please no negative comments. I know it may not be your style.) During my endless search for the perfect baby name I have become somewhat disgusted with the "tryndy" style of mispelling baby names using y's or extra letters (Madissyn or McKynna, for example.) However, my name is Kyle and I have spent the last 32 years of my life being mistaken for a man. I even got put into boy's P.E. three years in a row. I bet I would have like being Kyelle back then. So I'm torn. Do I go with the more classic Cameron, which I like better? Or do I give her the more feminine spelling of Camryn despite my distaste for this type of "unique" name wrangling? What would be better for her in the long run? Thank you for your advice.

Cameron seems a like a boy's name...

Camryn looks and sounds very much like a girl's name

I totally understand what you mean about the new form of spelling ( my name is an unusual spelling as well) but having seen your choices, I really think Camryn is so much prettier than Cameron. She will never have any confused people placing her in the wrong gender and she gets to have a new twist on a classic name.

Usually, I'm not in favor of a bizarre spelling, but Camryn isn't that exotic, and it's a great take on a beautiful name. It's not that unusual to spell that way, but still uncommon enough that she can feel a bit unique! I think Camryn is a great spelling!

While it's important for you to be pleased with the name you give your daughter, she is the one who will have to use it, spell it & write it everyday of her life, and I imagine most girls/women would prefer a more feminine version of the name.

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your daughter! Children are a gift from God, and I look forward to one day getting married & having children of my own.

Best Wishes!!!
:o)

First, I love your choice of names. I think that Cameron looks more masculine and I understand that you don't want to change the spelling up to much, however, the spelling of Cameron with a K- Kameron really isn't to different yet looks more girly. And as someone earlier pointed out, all you would have to say is, it's cameron with a K not a C. I also like the spelling Camryn, I just thought you would want to stay closer to the correct spelling.

Whatever you decide, my best wishes to you and your husband and may you have a healthy, beautiful little girl!!!

I agree with you on the crazy spellings of names these days. I think Cameron is better and here's why. Because Camryn is an uncommon spelling she will never be able to find her name on things like coffee mugs or those little bicycle lisense plates. I know it's not a big deal to have those things and if you really wanted them you could get them specially made. See my name is Kami. Not a super common name and sometimes I do find stuff with my name on it, but it's always spelled Cammy or Camie or whatever and it's always made me a little sad. I know it's stupid, but I'm 27 now and still to this day when I go in a store and see a rack of stuff with everyone's names on it I always look. Never had any luck. Therefore I vote for the common spelling. Cameron! Also Cameron Diaz spells her name that way and I never thought it made her less feminine.

I think if you don't want your daughter to get mistaken for a man I think you should go with Camryn. Only because when I saw the title I thought you were talking about a boy's name. Plus I think the spelling with the y looks cute.

i individually think of that it particularly is a unisex call! i like camryn for a woman. some people think of that it particularly is masculine whether you modify the spelling yet i think of it makes an substantial difference. Boys maximum in all probability would not choose their call I be spelled camryn a minimum of those i comprehend say they like it cameron for a boy. anyhow stable success!

Camryn does look a lot more feminine than its original spelling, but I wouldn't use it.
Although it really is your choice. If you like the original spelling better than with the Y than go with that. I personally like the original spelling more than any other ways.
And I'm pretty sure that now they check for genders before putting kids in PE classes. It'd be rather stupid of schools not to.
