You sound like you're a teenager. Kids your age really, really don't want to be different whether or not you admit it. If nobody else in your school wears hearing aids then why would you want to? Even 80 year old women don't want to wear them- they think it makes them look old and different!

You have to realize that you wouldn't have been fit with aids if you didn't need them. Maybe you can talk to your parents about getting you a different, less visible style. Hearing aids are very expensive, so if your parents have to pay for them on their own don't be surprised if they don't agree.

You can also change how you wear your hair. If you wear behind the ear aids, just wear your hair down and people won't notice.

Don't sacrifice your hearing just because of cosmetics. Trust me, when you're 50 years old and you can still understand people when they talk, you'll be glad you wore your hearing aids when you were younger.

Depending on the nature and extent of your hearing loss, hearing aids can be an essential part of dealing with the world, which is geared for people with full hearing. Have you thought about why you don't like to wear them and how you could correct that particular part of the problem without giving them up completely? If they don't fit well, you might need new ear molds. If they are amplifying too much background noise, you might need different hearing aids or different programs. If you don't like the cosmetic aspects, there are newer smaller configurations that are barely visible.

My father feels the very same way, but he misses a lot of important things that are said to him. If you are still in school it can really effect your learning and your grades. You also might think about how they effect your safety. What if a bad person sneaks up on you and you can't hear them?

I am hard of hearing, but I don't wear hearing aids. My doctor actually recommended that I not wear them because of the annoyance and inconvenience they cause. As long as I can manage somewhat without them, I won't wear them.

My three year old has to wear hearing aides. I guess it is hard to keep them in his ears at this time, and he is alway putting them in his mouth and ruining them.

My grandmother does, and my father's friend. Poor grandma is almost like deaf without hearing aids on! I bet she LOVES our loud house!

Theres a girl on my soccer team that wears one, its really annoying though because even with it she still can't hear you. When you talk to someone its a lot better when they can hear what your saying.
