Well in this country we assume someone is innocent despite whatever evidence comes up until he is pronounced guilty by a court. We even give him a lawyer and let him see pretty much all the evidence against him. We don't form a mob and lynch him from a tree anymore.

At the same time, we hold a bunch of people who've never been charged with any crime in Guantanamo for goin' on 6 years now.

So, what do you consider civilized and what do you consider as the proper way to treat criminals?

Wow. That's a tough question. As much as some people in a country become civilized, there are many more who do not succumb to civility. Those who are not willing to be civilized are typically the criminals (in my opinion).

The more civilized people become...perhaps, the more glaring the criminal behavior becomes. And, therefore, the necessity of punishing the behavior to prevent further crimes becomes clear.

At the same time, there will always be people who consider themselves "civilized" who desire more benefits for criminals and better treatment.

One question that will need further reflection is "what is better treatment?"

A brief search on the internet shows that there is a Prison Advocacy Network that seeks to treat criminals better.

I, personally, consider myself "civilized" and believe that people know prisons exist for criminals. If they choose to engage in criminal activity, they are welcoming the consequences that go with it. Certainly, I do not agree with prisoner abuse; however, imprisonment for many years, horrible food, lack of freedeom, etc is the consequence for personal choices made by the imprisoned.

I am attaching a website that may be of interest. Not sure if it will help much, but I sure hope so.

nicely yeah regardless of the undeniable fact that it produces some difficulty. The "utopia" effect the place human beings have confidence they're assisting human beings in way of being greater suitable however the reality of it a hidden monster waits below. the project I even have is that it rather is ordinary to talk yet changing human beings by using speaking has by no skill labored. Now each and every from time to time human beings make injuries. I mean there are situations the place human beings do some thing dumb and finally end up killing or harming others. That on my own should not be punished rather as they by no skill meant to be a injury to society. regardless of the undeniable fact that, an endless majority of those in detention center at the instant are not ordinary to rehabilitate and on good of that they simply say effective issues like they discovered god or some thing on an identical time as locked as much as get off the hook.

No, that statement is false...

A true statement would be this one:

The more tolerant a civilization becomes of criminals, the higher the crime rate soars within their society, and the quicker that civilization is left in ruins, because of its tolerance.

There is nothing civil about tolerance for criminals.

Liberals always have excuses for what criminals do. The only justice I have confidence in is the Lord's. After we all die we must stand before God and be judged. There is and won't ever be fair judgement by fellow man on earth. That is just the way it is. It is a fallen society.

It's been said... but then a lot of stupid things have been said.

Historically, I'd say that's probably incorrect. Crime was dealt with very harshly in every civilization up till maybe 30 years ago...

Perhaps this change is one of the reasons why Western civilization is stagnant or in decline.

No that is a totally false statement! I wasnt more civilized when I was attacked by Black people for being white! I was as civilized as ever and obviously they werent! When you are a victim you see red and act accordingly with uncivilized beasts!

If thats the case we need to reverse course. I worked in a state prison for years and the inmates had multiple basketball courts, volleyball courts, weight room, miniature golf course and a freaking theatre. Most of the inmates in the block I was in charge of said that if they knew they would gotten all of this for going to prison they would have committed a crime sooner.

sadly, yes. That is why our prisons are so overcrowded nowadays. we rely on reform as opposed to punishment. Why do you think hanging, beheading, and the torture devices created by Christians during the crusades, like the rack, and hot oil, are no longer used? It used to be a theif lost his hand, a murderer his life, and so on. It wasn't about life in prison or anything of that sort before.

I would say that the more complaicent people become, the better they treat criminals.
