You can dual boot Linux with Windows in your PC: But if you consumed all of your disk space for Windows I guess you need to backup it first coz u need to re-partition your harddrive to allocate several partitions for Linux. And thats a long shot.

A much more short way is to have a Linux Live CD, no need to allocate a free space in you hard disk all saving will be done in your RAM memory therefore you can not save a data permanently after you switch off your PC all defined configuration and data will be lost not unless you save it in a secondary storage such as flash or floppy drive. Just insert your Linux Live CD in your CD Drive then switch on your PC then there you go you may use Linux.

There are two ways to run Linux on your system... you could do a dual boot system or you can run a virtual system... meaning you can run windows xp and Linux at the same time...

now you have not said which Linux you would like to run. my advice would be to download ubuntu that is the best and easiest to use, you will also find there are plenty of tutorials that will teach you how to install linux.

Those that tell you linux is no good are fools they have not got a clue what linux is all about...

To see for your self goto youtube.com and type in the search bar ... linux ... and check out just what linux can do... it puts Windows Vista to shame...

if you want to know more get back to me...

I could alternatively set up Fedoracore five that is loose I and the contemporary "purple hat" distribution. If you put in home windows xp first then placed the primary linux disk to your force and reboot (be certain the desktop boots from the cd force) it must set up itself, repartition your rough force and set up a boot loader (grub) onto your MBR so you do not have to purchase a programme like boot magic. Also in reply to trengenX, you do not want any programming abilities to make use of linux regardless that when you have them you'll be able to modify it to do as you desire alternatively than what Bill Gates wishes you to do, you do not pay a "home windows tax", so much linux program is loose and plenty of it each and every bit as well because the home windows equivilent and that is the pleasant bit you do not have to run anti virus program considering the fact that the fundamental structure of linux makes it very tricky for virus to have an impact on it. Sorry for the preaching.

You should use Ubuntu, because it is easy to use and has Live CD. First, select the right ISO for your CPU. Download the ISO file. Get PowerISO (free). Burn the ISO file with PowerISO onto a blank CD drive. Restart the computer. When it restarts, go to boot menu, and select the CD drive. Then, you can see what Ubuntu looks like without installing it. If you install it, Ubuntu partitions the drive for you, so you can still use WIndows XP.

You can do one of two things
1 Make your pc a dual boot one and that is easy or do what I do.
and has been suggested and I use
Knoppix Live
It is a OS that you can run "Live "from a dvd. You do not have to load it to the hard drive, you can if you want to, but it runs from the disc and has Firefox and all the games and other things you need. and it is free. or maybe a few bucks...after all we who create these take our time to do..if you want a disc search ' Knoppix live" or I can send you for disc cost and postage.
a buck

If your reason for running Linux is because ¨it looks cool¨ ..then you won't be happy with it , stay with windows , thats your level.
