Simply put, Dirk Nowitzki has the size of a center, listed as a 4 or power forward, but plays small forward. On offense, he has no inside moves to speak of. He plays face-up to the basket and shoot outside jumpers from the wings. On defense, he does nothing. Thus, he's just a shooting forward.

Dirk Nowitzki is definitely a power forward. he was named one of the 3 best power forwards in the NBA. along side Tim Duncan and Keven Garnet.

Power Forward, but sometimes Center.

First of all, he's PF because he's tall. Why would you put a guy that is 7ft tallin a guard position?

Second, one of the forward's function is to rebound, and I think in that matter we could all agree that he's good as he's averaging about 9 boards per game.

He plays power forward, but he used to play small. The reason? Avery Johnson is a bad, stupid coach, who sees a tall player, even one who can't defend other big guys and takes mostly outside shots, and puts him in the power forward hole.

Small forward. He can play the 4 but he is a big time liability inside and his post game offensively is not to good. Awesome SF though.

Dirk is a power forward

I'd say he plays both positions. He is a natural small forward but because of his ceiling (7 ft. +) is forced to play against strong power forwards.

Dirk is considered just a Forward he hardly ever guards guys 6'8, 6'9 so i would consider dirk a power forward if i had to chose but i prefer to call dirk a forward.

He's playing like SF but he actually is PF. But u have to remember that Avery Johnson sometime use small line up whenever the other teams using small lineup.

He is more of a small forward, however, they put him at power forward at times.
