To solve these problems. we have to isolate or leave our unknown (which is x in all these cases) on the left hand side of each equation in order to determine the values of x.

The solutions to the above problems are as follows:
-2x = 6
(-2x)/(-2) = 6/(-2)
x = -3

-12 = -4x
-4x =-12
(-4x)/(-4) = (-12)/(-4)
x =3

5x= -10
5x/(5) = -10/(5)
x = -2

-3x=15
-3x/(-3) = 15/(-3)
x = -5

4x= -6
4x/4 = (-6)/4
x = (-6)/2/(4)/2
x = -3/2

28= -7x
-7x = 28
(-7x)/(-7) = 28/(-7)
x = -4

-56= 8x
8x = -56
8x/8 = -56/8
x = -7

6x= -3
6x/6 = -3/6
x = (-3)/3/(6)/3
x = -1/2

-42= -6x
-6x = -42
(-6x)/(-6) = -42/(-6)
x = 7

9x= -54
9x/9 = 54/9
x = 6

4x= 7
4x/4 = 7/4
x = 7/4 = 1&3/4

-15 = -3x
-3x = -15
(-3x)/(-3) = (-15)/(-3)
x = 5

-10 =8x
8x = -10
8x/8 = -10/8
x = (-10)/2/(8)/2
x = -5/4
x = -1&1/4

These algebra problems are solved by finding the number next to the letter, and dividing each side by that number. For example, the first problem is -2x = 6. In this example we divide each side by -2.

-2x=6
-2x/-2 = 6/-2
x = -3

Lets try one with the negative on the other side

4x = -6
4x/4 = -6/4
x= -6/4
x= -1 1/2 or -1.5

And finally, lets try one with both negative numbers

-15 = -3x
-3x = -15
-3x/-3 = -15/-3
x = 5

Remember, if the sign on the left side of the equal sign is opposite the sign on the other side, then the answer will be negative. If they are like signs, the answer will be positive.

Ok - You need to solve for 'x' in each of these cases. So, for the problem -2x= 6 , you need to get x alllll by itself. So, what you do is divide the -2x by -2, and also divide the 6 by -2 (because what you do to one side, you have to do to the other). So now, since you have gotten rid of the -2 from the x side, what do you now have on the other side where you divided 6 by -2? You have x = -3, right? Right.

Ex: -2x = 6

-2x/-2 = 6/-2

x = -3

All you have to remember for each of these is 1) Get the x by itself and 2) what you do to one side, you have to do to the other. Ok - now do the same thing for all of the problems. ;o)

Your goal is to get the x by itself. so for example the first one -2x=6 you would Divide 6 by -2 because -2 was being multiplied by x. basically you do the opposite function to gain the answer. for he first one you would get 3. the second one 3
the third one -5. Just a note be careful when you divided look out for your negatives and positives and be sure to simplify

Divide both sides by the coefficient of x. If there is a negative sign in front of the coefficient, include it in the division; it is the sign of the coefficient. Simplify the result if necessary.
EXAMPLE 5x = -10
x = -10/5 or x = -2
