i'm looking for the name of a certain type of cloth - usually with very bright flowers and it's waterproof, almost plastic-y feel to it. it is often used for placemats or table cloths but sometimes tote bags. it is sometimes even sold just as cloth. it usually has loud colored, bright flowers on it or else stripes or plaid or something. does anyone know what i'm talking about? please help!

Oil cloth is the sturdiest; however, flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth material is a lot more inexpensive (greater variety of patterns), if you can use it in your project.

Bought six Large rectangular tablecloths for use in my party building, used pinking shears to cut to fit tables, viola--no sew waterproof table runners and table cloths.

I sewed a vinyl front full body patch to a large-bibbed cloth apron, no more bleach spots on clothing beneath apron when washing dishes, more durable and cooler than a regular vinyl apron

You can purchase both types of material in fabric stores, however the vinyl is usually less expensive in a Walmart, Kmart type of store.

Make sure you don't buy the vinyl tablecloth at one of those "Dollar" type of stores, quality is too flimsy.

I saw the first answer and I think it is oilcloth also.
In girlscouts in the 60's we made sit-upons with these so we would stay dry sitting on the ground.
It is usually on very long skinny rolls in the upholstery section of the fabric store.
It is nice for outside chair cushion covers.
