in the III-IV century a tribe called SLAV had a very big expancion, their origin was from caucaz mounties,in the places were they live life was hard cause of the clima which was so cold and the place was full of mounties.so they began to spread all over north east west south to discover better places to live, but we must take in concideration that this people were strong were many in number and they were used with the the living in cold.so they were spread first in the west of ural mountin till baltic sea, than after they turn to the south were the clima was much warm and the living was much easier,of course that the SLAV tribes were very strong and they concuist this countries with blody battles and forced the people there to obey to their life style and their orders,we must take in concideration that their number increase with the passing of years so the needs for food were raising so they began to spread much in south and southeast, when russia became a strong and concern country they discover that the east of ural mountin were full of minerals and other goods like oil, iron etc so russia began to expanse forward east and to build a huge train road to connect in this way the east and the west of the country so in this way russia became a large country, bye

Much of Russia is the area in Asia, or Siberia. Siberia was, and for the most part is, lightly inhabited, and a difficult land to settle. Thus, other nations were not interested in it. A good part of European Russia is at high latitudes, and is also not highly settled. Again, in the absence of competitors, Russia expanded to the Arctic.

Quick and to the point: Russia has conquered this territory throughout history and, through treaty, has established its borders with its (remaining) neighbors.
Same as the United States.

It's a lot of ice and rock. Not favorable land.
Though, I'm not sure if they have a lot of natural resources or not...
I think there's a lot of oil in north Russia.
