U2 is the best band in music history because of their massive success and long-running career. Think about it: these guys have been at it since 16 years old, they've put out 25 albums, toured all over the world, selling out huge, stadium shows, their songs have been recognized worldwide, and they take a huge stance in humanitarian rights and use their fame (and fortune) to help those who are less fortunate than most. U2 has been one of the most popular and respected bands for over 24 years. Furthermore, their musicianship and live show are incredible.
As a musician myself, and a music fan, I look up to these guys and highly respect them.

I don't agree with your opinion about those artists, but will defend your right to say it. But the greatest (I mean greatest) was an orchestra that was conducted by Johann Strauss Jr in the States. He conducted 10 full orchestras at the same time.
