My (ex) manager opened my check to "check my hours" Yet she was also telling everyone that I was not going to be receiving my bonus check. I know she was checking my paycheck to see if it was a bonus check. She receives a form with every check that tells her what the checks have in them. I do not see it necessary for her to open my check. Is there something legal I can do to her in the state of texas?

Okay, the only reason I am REALLY upset here is because she threatened to withhold my checks to other employees, including my bonus check. She also wouldn't let any of the employees release it to me WITHOUT calling her first. It has my name and address on it, and she had no reason to open my check. She has major issues with me leaving the company, because she now no longer has an assistant manager to cover her mistakes. I know it wouldn't be worth taking to court or whatnot, but I just want to report her to the company and I want to have my facts straight before blowing off the handle :)

How was the check addressed? If it had your name and address on it then they shouldn't have done that. On the other hand, if it was just in an envelope or somehow stored with other checks then they may have the right.

Probably not. It would be a lot of trouble to try to make something out of that. However, if you document, and continue to get harassed by the ex manager, or your privacy is infringed in other ways, you might complain to labor board.

No one should be opening your paychecks except you. There are other ways to check someone's hours besides looking at their checks.

If it is your boss, what is the big deal? She should already know how much you make so who cares if she sees the actual check? Really now...disgruntled are we?

Its a federal offense for anyone other than you to open your mail. I'd ask your local police if there is anything they can do about it.
