Nothing. We have the worst crop in history of self-interested megalomaniacs who lust for power and money. Most could care less about the you's and me's of the world.

Having had two parents in government I know how silly some of the complaints are.
I think the vast majority are good men and women, patriotic, trying to do what is right for their country.
The few that end up in the news are there for three reasons:
1) Our leaders are easy targets because we don't let them hit back. It's a cheap shot.
2) News is about the strange and weird. That's why corrupt politicians are in the news. They're rare. You don't see ex-felons in the news, do you? That's common.
3) There are way too many people with such low self-esteems that the opportunity to jump on the band wagon and bash someone, whether it's a religion, a race, a political party (you didn't think bigotry was dead, did you? Politics is the new frontier for bigotry!) is irresistible. Lacking the ethics and patriotism necessary to put their country ahead of their personal ideology and needy grasping at a feeling of superiority, they call our leaders names, spread false rumors, and treat them as "guilty until proved innocent".
Respect for our elected representatives is patriotic.
So is respectful protest and dissent that puts the country ahead of your ideology.
These people don't know the difference between that and sedition.
And our leaders put up with it every day. Every Day.
Better people than me.

NO!
The Germans thought Hitler was doing the right thing, the Chinese thought Mao was, the Filipinos thought Marcos was, the British thought Chamberlain was....
on and on and on.
ANY leader can be fallible. Look at Nixon! Or Johnson!
Any country can BLINDLY follow a leader, but that is exactly what becomes the origin of ruination---incompetant leaders JUST like the idiots we have in Bush and Cheney.

Well, if you study the policies of these politicians alongside their private business dealings then the question is answered more on concrete grounds and less on some vague party affiliations.
If you look up the Carlyle group, the Haliburton Company, see who is tied up with Enron executives, and such.
In short if you look at the record, let's call it what it is, the criminal record, of our elected officials, then it's easy to give them their fair marks.
We, citizens, have abdicated our responsibility to hold our politicians responsible. We allow them all sorts of conflicts of interests that they get rich with and empoverish us with for the sake of "keeping us safe", or some other rhetoric. We are loosing this, or have already lost this, democracy.
We sit by in a crucial time of global warming while idiots refuse real dialogue with scientists.
So, what is my opinion of our political leaders? uhm...........
it would be nice to have some take office.
