Very odd. complicated story. John "Johnny Wadd" Holmes was getting toward the end of his career, he was suffering from a mysterious new ailment known at that time as "Gay Cancer" (AIDS) and he had a prodigious drug habit. Through his druggie friends he met this guy who seemed to have TONS of good coke and heroin, Holmes' two favorites. It is very possible he was there in the drug dealer's house before the shooting began, and it's possible he was there during the murders. Although he was never actually charged, he was suspected of involvement to one degree or another. After Holmes died, the case against him was quietly closed This story is also covered in "Boogie Nights"- Mark Wahlberg in the Holmes role, Alfred Molina in the drug dealer's role.

Not to be all snotty, but people don't die from AIDS, they die from AIDS-related complications, like pneumonia or the flu. But yeah, he died from AIDS-related complications.
