We're not going to have a choice. Congress has shown no interest -Republican or Democrat - in reducing spending or balncing the budget. I now proclaim, officially, on Aunt Acid's Political survey: Congress is out of control. The citizen government id dying a slow and painful death. Unless we figure out how to reign these shysters in, these social programs are going to collapse.
For example, when Social security first started it was about 20 employees paying for one retiree? Something like that. Now it's 3 employees paying for 1 retiree. It can't continue without raising FICA, which started out at 2% of your income. Now it close to 15% of your income. (Of course your employer pays half of that out of HIS pocket. Right!)
Now we have this sizable amount of uneducated dolts clamoring for "free" health care. So let me see if I understand. People keep less of their income than any other time in the history of our country. We pay taxes on top of taxes. We pay user fees, hidden taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, consumption taxes, FICA, Medicare, Fed Tax. These idiots charge us to build our state parks and then charge us a fee to use them!!! Taxpayers are building baseball stadiums, football stadiums, and we don't even get a free ticket. How about a free drink cuopon. The last time I watched a game I was charged 9 dollars for a 20 oz drft beer! So anyway, people are in debt up to their rearends, ignore the government rape of their incomes, and then say we need a new tax. One for "free" healthcare. I feel like I'm in the Twighlight Zone. Maybe life is passing me by. I don't get it.

Try living in a third world country. What you have here is taken for granted by complaining about things such as taxes. Go out there and see what other's have to go through in different countries then you'll start appreciating everything you have. If you really feel so strong on taxes, sure don't pay it but be ready for consequences.

Social programs that aren't working no I don't but the ones that do yes. We can't forget about the truly needy Americans the homeless, the elderly the hungry children or the vets that are disabled that need our help. America was built on this philosophy and will prosper as the result. Isn't that what We The People means.

I'm for sure pro-American, and keeping our society civilized by helping Americans.
You people keep crying about social programs, while supporting bush that isn't only pro-corporate welfare, but also pro-foreign government welfare.
if you do not believe this, just check out some of the state department's new programs. do a search for Millennium Challenge Account .
Social programs increase cash flow, indirectly promotes business, reduces crime, increases education lowering the costs of skilled labor, and and makes America a better society to be a part of.
i work with many working Americans, that aren't too tired to take advantage of educational social programs to send their children to college.

I dont mind. Its stands to logic that if the people around you are happier, you also will be happier. Stop thinking only of yourself. If we just did a flat rate tax for everyone, raised taxes wouldn't be needed. If we stopped sending money to fund things that are not necessary, like the iraq war, we could use that billions of dollars to pay for social programs. If they raised wages for working americans so they can pay for food and take care of their families, we'd then send more in taxes and become a better balanced civilization. Selfishness will get us no where.

I want less taxes, I want less federal interference in our rights, give this issue and many others to the states where the constitution clearly shows the rights.
Those who want to increase taxes for social programs want others taxes increased not theirs.

It depends on what the social programs are... I am generally against most social programs but I am open to ones that can benefit me and/or my neighbors.
