has a walker/jogger friendly atmosphere where I can walk to the coffee shop, a grocery store and maybe a nice restaurant or two with my daughter in her stroller and jog without worrying about anything. I live in a neighborhood like this now and will miss it terribly if I cannot find this in SA, TX. I will most likely rent for a year before I buy since we don't know where is best for us. My hubby's family lives in SE San Antonio but nothing is close but Wal-Mart. ;-D

Help me, please, San Antonio!!!
Thanks!

Some folks can live where ever they are Like Doctors, nurses and school teachers but the rest of us don't have really deep pockets, so I will make mu suggestion a little bit different. With a child (children) you are no doubt going to be interested in a good school for this child. The two very best school districts in San Antonio are the North side independent school district and the North East independent school district. I am not sure what you would call walking distance. I am going to figure a mile. The intersection of Potranco and loop 1604,there are new neighborhood coming everyday. (This is the Sea World area.) These new built homes are going to range from $90,000 and up. They are bicycle and walker friendly. Staying with in a miles of the intersection named there is either now or under construction a new HEB Plus store A new Super Wal-mart,Starbucks, Several banks, several restaurants, Kohl's Department store, A new Target, car washes, gas stations, And with in two and a half miles of this intersection there are several colleges, Hospital, motels, mini golf curse, Sea World, Micro Soft service center, CTI center, etc. This is the fastest growing part of the city. You are located about 15 minutes from Down town San Antonio. I will debunk any concern about lack of schools available to the new home owners here. There are new schools everywhere, from primary through high school. There are colleges available as well. Welcome to San Antonio

If you think of San Antonio as a big clock, the areas from about 10:00 to about 12:30 are the best areas in which to live. One exception is the Alamo Heights area off Broadway, but it's rather expensive. Leon Valley would be all right...you might also check neighborhoods out Highway 281 north.

I agree. Southwest San Antonio (near Potranco & 1604) is great. In live in the area and feel very safe. That is saying something because I'm from a small town in the Midwest. Also, HEB Plus is nearby, Starbucks is opening in a few weeks. Dentist offices also. Pei Wei restaurant. Also Kohls, several banks, it is continually growing and I've lived in San Antonio for a year. It is also a plus because many of the neighborhoods in that area are military families because of the proximity to Lackland AFB. I would check out Trophy Ridge, Wolf Creek, also, The Westover Hills Subdivision. Westover Hills area does not have as much stores in walking distance but it is a very nice area. For renting, I know a few people that live in The Lodge at Westover Hills and really like it. Hope this helps.

I live in San Antonio and it is a nice safe place. However, San Antonio is not exactly like new york city where you can walk everywhere. Most people here drive because alot of places are far apart and not in very close distances. However, if you like walking really far than you will be just fine here. I live in North West San Antonio by helotes. It is very nice over here and it really depends on wehat area you live though. Where i live the closest thing to my house is a gas station but, there are places that do live close to stores and whatnot. There are apartments just across the street by a movie theatre and a very nice shopping center called Huebner Oaks, it has resturaunts and a starbucks there along with many other great stores. Most houses are very close to anything to where you can walk to get a coffee or something like used to but, apartments do. Northwest San Antonio is the nicest safest area.....but, i dn't know of houses and neighborhoods that are within walking distance. You might want to try looking for a house in shavano there are some houses that are close to mini shopping center across the street that is nice, but I t all depends on how far you want to walk and your budget for finding a house. good luck. i hoep you like it here in san antonio. Its nice here.

I live in San Antonio, Texas. My home is in Burning Tree subdivision off of Jones Maltsberger, but there are some beautiful apartments just on Thousand Oaks. Also, there are some reasonable priced homes which you could get and live for in less expensive than an apartment. I live 3 houses from a beautiful 260 acre park with jogging trails and pet park, softball and soccer fields and kiddie areas. There is within walking distance a grocery store, my doctor, my dentist, several fast food chains and several unique restaurants as well as a well behaved nightclub with great bands regularly, nail salons, hair salons, a blockbuster, and places to take your car if you so desire to have them serviced as well. There is a cute little park right on 1000 oaks with a duck sanctuary. I love this area. There are good schools and everything is in walking distance. Within bikeriding distance on a bike riding path is a nice ice skating rink, putt putt golf and theater. I'd take my car there, but you could actually ride your bike pretty safely and more apartment complexes there. It is called Henderson Pass Rd. There is even a library and a post office as well as stables on this road. Welcome to San Antonio.

Without question you should look into Alamo Heights. I just moved here about 3 months ago and after looking at all of the different gated communities and apartment complexes, finally found Alamo Heights and love it. The Central Market grocery store has valet parking!!! There are a few nice restaurants on Broadway and rather centrally located. It is a great place to live!

The Medical Center is walker/jogger friendly. They have a huge area of apartments/condos for rent as well. Everything you're looking for is in this area, Coffe Shops, Target, Walmart, walking paths. Also no too far from there, around De Zavala is a little more quiet area with same resources.

I live on the Northeast side in a subdivision called Spring Meadows/Ventura...less than a mile to the left is Wal-Mart, a little more than a mile to the right is HEB...in between are little shops and restaurants...starbucks is on Walzem about 10 minutes away by driving...
the subdivision right next to us on the other side of wal-mart is North Hampton...They have a large pool and a kiddie pool, a playground, b-ball courts, and it is very well-kept and it's a beautiful neighborhood...
hope this helps...

Don't forget about Alamo Heights! It is a little pricey...but very, very safe. I think they've only had one murder in like 30 years. They have Cappycino's, and other cute little trendy restaurant's and shops nearby...walking distance mostly. But, this is San Antonio, and everyone drives. It's hard to find an area were you can just walk to your favorite grocery store or coffee shop.

You might want to check out the Monte Vista/Alta Vista area. Lots of nice places within walking distance, very bicycle friendly, very much a community. Also, once you are ready to buy, if you can find a house, try Crown Hill Park...convenient to everything and Alamo Hgts. School District without Alamo Hgts prices.
