0% unless the Sox have a meltdown, which I don't see happening. AND no I am not a fan of the Sox, I am just stating a opinion.

This question has been asked before and it is essentially a math question. The winner of the Eastern Division will have to be at least 95-67. The Yankees are 42-43, if my constant of 95 wins minimum is correct, the Yankees must go 53-24 (.688 for the rest of the year). A tall order, but not impossible. The Red Sox are 53-34, so they would have to finish with a 42-33 record (.545 for the rest of the year) to hit 95 wins. A lot more likely, especially since the Red Sox still have 16 games left with Tampa Bay and only 7 left with the Yankees. Oh yeah, if both Boston and the Yankees were to completely tread water, the Blue Jays could ambush them both. The Red Sox have not been spectacular of late, going 17-18 over the last 35 games. Of course the dynamics could change after the last minute trades or if anyone gets hurt or gets hot. Forget the wild card, the Tigers and Indians already have put in their reservations and the Twins are a second half team historically.
Other team's fans have just had to deal with not making the post-season. Ask a fan from the North side of Chicago. This may be a year neither New York team makes the playoffs. don't worry, baseball will survive.

As of the All Star break the Yankees have 77 games left to play which is tied with the Seatle Mariners for the most to play in the American League. Catching Boston for the division would be a LARGE order. If Boston won 60% of their remaining games they would finish with about 97 wins meaning the Yankees would have to go 55 and 22 in the second half of the season. Despite the fantastic talent pool on the Yankees and the hopeful return of Phillip Hughes I can't see the Yankees playing at a .714 clip. When they won 114 games in 98 they won over a full season at .703 clip and that is considered one of the greatest teams in history.
The wild card has so many variables to win since the yankees would have to climb over the Blue Jays, Athletics, Twins, Mariners AND Indians. History has shown that while the Yankees seem to dominate the Twins head to head, the twins always seem to catch fire in the second half and finish with a strong record. The same could be said for the A's. The Mariners bullpen has been a rock this year and Richie Sexon will not finish the year hitting below .220 (he's a carear .290 hitter after the break) making the Mariner lineup most likely more potent. The A's with their injuries will most likely fade and the soft schedule for the Yankees following the break COULD propell them into the race. Its going to take MONSTEROUS second halfs from abreu, cano and matsui, along with the continueing clutch hitting from a-rod, jeter and Posada for the Yankee lineup to keep them from losing the off-day games that every pitcher has. Pettitte has been great post all star break and Clemens is determined. Moose is getting it together and Mo and Vizcaino have really righted the ship since a shaky april. However, without it all coming together and a lot of luck the Yankees, despite my bias and love for them, are a long shot to make the playoffs. I give them a 1 in 5 shot of making it.

The Yankees do have some team chemistry but they haven't been playing their best at all. I don't feel it this year and they were doing so bad at the beginning. I'm a Red Sox fan and I'm saying this through what they went through not through the effects of the rivalry. Roger Clemens is a good boost but he is old now and he doesn't have his stuff like before when he was a Yank. But heck he does have the pitches. Like all teams, everyone has a bad season.... unfortunately the Yankees are due (after winning a billion WS, pennants, etc). You should be happy with their surge from the worst team in the AL to 2nd place (I guess tied with the Blue Jays)

The Yankees have a chance because there is time for them to get healthy, however, they have no shot at the AL East 10 games is way too much to make up, and the Red Sox will not surrender the lead. However according to Baseball Prospects the Yankees have a 12% chance to win the wild card. It will probably take 92 wins for the Yankees to put themselves in a good posistion to win the wild card. So given their current record the Yankees would have to play about .650 baseball the rest of the way. Tough-Yes Impossible-No

I think the Yankees can make a comeback. I'm a Red Sox fan, but once their lineup heats up, they'll just murder every pitcher they see. if Clemens, Petite, and Moose can pitch like when they were younger....whoa, baby.
You have a shot at the East (yes, just another paranoid Red Sox fan), and the Wild Card race is tough. The Mariners are in it, and the Indians and Tigers are switching off in it.

Theres not many bigger Yank fans than me, but I am very cautious about predictions with this team. Their paper pitching staff has been much better than their field staff.
It would take a miracle to overtake the sox, and they need 3/4 of their remaining games to make wild card.

It will not happen. Just a few days ago a Yankee had 5 strikeouts in one game, and other player had 3 errors.
The Yankees gave up back to back to back to back homeruns this year.
Even Roger Clemens hasn't ressurected the team.
The Yankees go into the all-star break BELOW .500.
Sorry, just face the facts. The Yankees are going to trade away and try to build for the future.

I am a die-hard Yankee fan. I remember last year this exact same thing happened. We went back and forth from being really good and having rough patches. I think the Yankees can pull it off if everybody starts hitting and scoring runs.
