LA Angels are in Anaheim in Orange County...about 50-60 miles away from LA...the team was generally known as California Angels and then changed to Anaheim angels...thats the team name they used to win the championship in 2002

Los Angeles dodgers have been in LA for about 50 years I think

LA is a huge sports market, im sure we can afford to have a 3rd baseball team...but MLB will definitely cancel that out if it happens

New York has 2 baseball teams too...New York Mets and New York Yankees

Chicago has 2 teams...White Sox and Cubs

no waste there...just a big sports market so many teams are present

Also San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics are just a BART ride from each other. Baltimore and Washington are probably as close to each other as the Angels and Dodgers. As long as the fans support the teams, there is no reason not to have two teams in the same metropolitan area.
At one time the Braves were in Boston and played only about a mile from Fenway Park. The Giants played at the Polo Grounds in upper Harlem only a few miles from Yankee Stadium and both were only about a 1 hour subway ride from Ebbets Field in Brooklyn where the Dodgers played. St. Louis had the Cardinals and Browns until the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles. Philadelphia had the Phillies and Athletics.

Nope. Only the Dodgers are based in LA.

When Arturo "Augie" Moreno bought the team a few years ago, he wanted to change the name but the city of Anaheim had a deal with the ballclub. It took him a while but he eventually won the legal battle. The courts rules the name "Anaheim" had to appear in the name somewhere, so now they have the over-wordy title "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim."

It was done for marketing reasons. Augie, who is Hispanic, wanted to attract some of LA's very large Hispanic population, and to boost merchandise sales world-wide based on the city's name recognition.

The Dodgers are actually in LA and the Angels play in Anaheim and both have huge fan bases just like both Chicago and New York teams and games are well attended and the teams well supported, so no, it isn't a waste.

Los Angeles technically has two teams, although one is'nt actually in Los Angeles. Theres the LA Dodgers, and theres the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. You guessed it, they play in Anahiem. :P

I don't know why they changed it to the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" from "Anaheim Angels." It really doesn't make much sense.

But if you count that as having two teams in a city, it's not the only one. New York has two teams, as does Chicago, and LA is just about as big.

No. I love it. Thats like wondering Isnt chicago a was teof money? CUbs and White sox? Or how about NewYork? Yankees and Mets? Im not saying the other teams are a waste, but examples!
Frankly, i love the rival between dodgers and angels. The fans vary actually. I enjoy both teams. But yeahhh, both teams play so differently also. Think about it, Angels are more about baserunning, going home on a single, and their bullpen. Angels arnt a homerun team! Dodgers are more of a homerun teamish, and pitching. These two teams play differently. But i love it. (=

i hope i changed your mind a little?

Technically yes and it does seem like a waste. Although the angels play in Anaheim they are from LA. I would like to see a team take on a big city like Mexico City if one of the two were to move.

Yeah, but the Angels are in Anaheim. The Dodgers are at Chavez Ravine. It's been that way since 1961, so it must be working out somehow.
New York City actually had three teams at one time. That, however, did not work out, so two seems to be the limit for huge cities. . . .

No. LA has one true baseball team, the Dodgers. I don't know why but the Angels still play in Aneheim. Yet they are called the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim. How does that make sense?

I wouldn't say it's a waste. New York and Chicago are other cities that also have two MLB teams. Teams will locate where there are a lot of people to go to the games, and therefore money to be made.

As long as the LA area can and does support both of their teams (same can be said for NYC and Chi), then I guess I don't see where the problem is.
