I recently received a traffic violation for "Failure to stop a a stop sign". I was at a four way intersection when I made the turn. It was a narrow road and I am positive that I stopped at the stop sign. I believe If didn't stop my car would have crashed.Im INNOCENT! Does anyone know the formula for calculating this scenerio???

Can a car traveling at 28mph make a sharp left hand turn without crashing?

YES, but unfortunately this is not sufficient to get you off the hook. you know how strict they are - even though physics is on your side THEY certainly won't be.

Whether or not "a car traveling at 28mph make a sharp left hand turn without crashing" is totally irrelevant!

Either you stopped or you didn't.

If you contest the ticket, how are you going to PROVE that you did come to a FULL AND COMPLETE STOP?

Pay the fine!

A typical passenger car has a stopping distance proportional to the square of the speed. If the car has a 60-to-0 stopping distance of 130 feet, the stopping distance at any speed will be.

D = 0.0361 * v^2

where D is the stopping distance in feet and v is the velocity in miles per hour.

If v = 28 mph, then D is 28.3 feet. If you hit the brakes as hard as you could (and you had anti-lock brakes), you'd stop in about 28 feet. None of this will be useful as evidence in court, I'm afraid.
