I saw your question and I decided to reread the book. The main character Adam is woken up by his younger brother, Levi, because of a nightmare. In the middle of the night, the boys hear a rider stop at Buckman's Tavern with the news that the British are heading to Concord, where there are stores of ammunition. They intend to confiscate it. The British will have to pass through Lexington on their way to Concord. The townspeople are undecided about what to do. Should they raise a militia to stop the British? Finally Adam's father, Moses, convinces them to sign the muster books at Buckman's Tavern. The sixteen year old Adam can't remain aloof. He feels that he is now a man and must sign up. He also promises his neighbor to take his daughter home. Adam's parents argue over their son joining the fight. His father feels that Adam is justified but his mother does not. His father watches Adam load his gun as he gives him advice. The armed men are meeting on the Common waiting for the British. This is a summary of Chapter 3.

Is that supposed to be set during and just before Lexington and Concord? If so, no I haven't read it but I have seen the movie from the late '80s.
