Wtg on the big tank! Most people make the mistake of getting a small tank but you made a good choice.

As for filters, you should get a canister filter..it sits outside the tank. The Rena Filstar xp4 is recommended by many turtle owners-see it here http://www.fantasticaquatic.com/product_info.php?cPath=42_44_176&products_id=1253

It is a bit pricey but if you shop around you can probably get it for cheaper..you want to get a filter rated for 2x the size of your tank but one rated for 265 gallons should do the job.

Eheim is regarded as the best canister filter maker, however, they are a bit pricey..probably the most expensive...

Those are the professional filters they make-very good.

http://www.redearslider.com is a great website/forum by the way so if you had a question you should ask there (free to sign up, but you don't have to unless you wanna ask a question).

Good luck.

I was a kid I had a baby pool set up full of happy turtles and you can get cheap outdoor pond pumps or make one yourself. I think that for the price vs happy life factor just go out and set up a mini pond instead .But if you go with the tank a good set up to try is taking a cut out Styrofoam that sits perfectly 2/3 of the way inside the tank like a floating island that way you can use it as a florist does for arrangments and there is no loss of space the turtles can swim under where they live.Sorry almost forgot the answer to your question. Just get a pond pump for out door use. the indoor ones are fine but the size you need is expensive, compared to a outdoor pump actually made to be outdoors. They are cheap because they are more crude and not as aesthetically pleasing or noise free. set up a filter somewhere hidden just run 2 hoses(in/out) to a 5 gallon bucket you can rig to work as your filter. Hust look around at other peoples outdoor pond set ups.You should see some do it yourself approaches that will save you a couple hundred at least.

Yes, if each of them is under 2 inches. But it is never a good idea to keep 2 red ear sliders together regardless of how big the tank is.
