Divorce isn't an ordinary way out. Ask all and sundry who has been there. We make the determination to get married the 1st time as quickly as we are youthful. as though that may not adequate, we are residing in a society that doesn't fee or help marriage and we are residing in this form of quickly paced society which you ought to make judgements at as quickly as. Couples the two artwork, each and every from time to time opposite shifts. education and analyzing for hi-tech jobs or that next merchandising, handling a enjoyed ones and so on. takes a lot time that there is little time for another. Our neighborhoods are long gone. as quickly as we had acquaintances, they visited, they provided perspective and each from time to time even a assisting hand (or paint brush). Now its close to impossible to get any help without paying a expert. there is the reality that we are all human and make errors, and in the whirlwind of events small errors can upload up speedy and have massive repercussions, exceedingly while weighed in harm emotions. Throw in some setbacks, inlaws and economic burdens and its a recipe for catastrophe. television makes it sound like marriage gives you a companion to shield you...yet actually, marriage gives you a companion which you're looking after.... each and every determination and each circulate is now doubled....the load isn't lightened. i admire the trickle down theory for marriage. Marriage is a triangle with you and your companion on the backside. in spite of you place on the fabulous of your priorities jointly trickles down into each and every thing you do. For some, its young toddlers, or a activity or status. there became a time, that it became God. Thats the only difficulty that ever works...yet we save attempting to race around and instruct that some thing else would be purely nice....it by no skill it, yet we save at it in any case....

Try 'Werther' by Massenet or 'Peter Grimes' by Benjamin Britten. If you are lucky enough to see a live performance it can really get the tears flowing. If you're after super dark and depressing try the Janacek operas especially 'Jenufa' and 'Katya Kabanova'. The ultimate, for me, would have to be 'Batavia' by Richard Mills - the final scene was almost unbearable - which was hard work as I was on the stage.

Your chances are better than 50% by just choosing a random opera, especially if you stick to later (19th/20th century) Italian/French stuff. :)
I think my personal choice would be when Butterfly sings "Un bel di" and imagines what it will be like when her "husband" comes home. A real tear jerker, especially if you know how it turns out. (Hint: she has a very bad day.)
Nobody's mentioned "Rigoletto". Finding his only daughter's body in a bag makes for some top opera agony.

Verdi's La Traviata (Moulin Rouge was based on this opera). Alfredo realizes that the courtesan Violetta had sacrificed her love for him, so that his family's honor may remain intact. When he finally returns to her, it's too late as she is dying from consumption (tuberculosis).
Verdi's Otello is also very tragic and one of Verdi's most mature operas. Based on the Shakespeare play, Otello was blinded by jealousy planted by the evil Iago. Refusing to listen to his wife Desdemona's innocent pleas, he strangles her in bed. When he finally learns the truth, he realizes his grave error and stabs himself.

I cried during the insane asylum part of Rake's Progress, when she's singing him the lullaby
The end of Queen of Spades is very sad (the men's chorus sings the saddest piece to close the show)
I find Cavalleria very sad- but you only find out he dies about 1 minute before the show is over (maybe it's just sad for me when I've sung the show- since I got him killed)
Un Ballo in Maschera ends very sad...
Aida ends sad- they suffocate...
Forza del Destino is hard to follow but sad at the end...
Susannah is very sad how she ends up...

90% of operas are sad sooo you have a HUGE amount to chose ... La Boheme is real tearjerker only when the Mimi is very good .... Fedora is another not ofton performed tearjerker because Fedora decides to kill the lead Tenor for killing her philandering husband (she of course unaware he is a cad) she gets close to the Tenor poisons him and then realizes she loves him and ends up alone

Madama Butterfly and La Bohemme come to my mind, sorry that I can't recall the authors, but I can give a very brief description of the plots
In old Japan, Butterfly falls in love with a US Naval officer and when she realizes he already married and her dreams are lost, she kills herself.
In La Bohemme, the heroine is a sweet girl who eventually succumbs to illness.
