lead-208 indicates that the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons equals 208.

from the periodic table, lead has 82 protons (this does not change regardless of whether it is an isotope or not)

since protons + neutrons = 208 you find that
neutrons = 208 - protons

neutrons = 208 - 82 = 126.

therefore lead-208 has 82 protons and 126 neutrons.

Lead always has 82 protons (otherwise, it is not lead). That leaves 208-82 neutrons

The number of an element automatically refers to the amount of altered neutrons. The amount of protons in the atom will never change. The protons, if you will, are the element's DNA.
