Is the G.O.P. history because George W. Bush is such a P.O.S. (No… I don’t mean ‘Point Of Sale’) or have they made their own bed?

As an independent, I can honestly say that I’m now leaning to the “left” because the Republican Party has been playing EVERYONE for fools. I even (almost) feel sorry for the Shrub, The G.O.P. has even taken “him” for a ride along with the “Bible Thumpers”.

I get the feeling that a “Republican” Party will do ANYTHING at all - to win an election, even commit “treason” to protect their ideology – whatever that is.

Jeremiah - You have the opportunity to not only "star" this question, but to speak up for yourself as well.

Not even the "Patriot Act" can stop you.

I agree with you completely. They aren't history, but they are divided and snarling at each other these days. All of sudden the Democrats are looking more and more like the "unity" party. I'm an Independent too, and I have steadily lost all respect for the Republican Party, when I used to vote for them quite often. It isn't just President Bush, it's Cheney, it's the unending smell of corruption coming from the White House, it's all his cronies, his disastrous appointments of buddies and pals not fit to do their jobs. It's the rubber stamp Republican Congress that coddled him, and the chaos he has created in Iraq with the complete lack of planning for the aftermath of the initial invasion. There's more, but that will do.

I'm tired of Bush and his minions peeing on my boots and telling me it's raining outside. They have become a party of slander, character assassination, and disrespect for our Constitution. Not to mention the disrespect they show the American people by parroting all their rhetoric that they expect us to accept as truth. Our VP truly believes he is above the law and half the nation is wondering whether Bush has just been a puppet whose strings are worked by Cheney.

They truly have become a party that values its power more than the truth or the well being of the American people and it's shameful.

Contrary to your opinion, no the GOP is not history. The GOP has been down before and will rise again. The Democrats have little to run on either and also play the voters for fools. You have to remember that both the GOP and Democrats run after the same corporate money. The GOP still wins the race because they have the ideas and stand for the values most of us in the "silent majority" still like and cherish.

Be careful of the left because the special interests they cater too. The anti-war crowd does not realize that their is a real enemy out there, no matter how much they gloat over Iraq. Mr. Bush to his credit realized that something had to happen after 9/11 and did something. Granted, he and his people stumbled a bit, but he did stick to his guns and made the effort. The military still supports the war effort and this includes the common soldiers who are fighting the war. All you need to do is read a few military blogs to find this out.

I've seen the GOP stumble after Watergate and Bush Sr. and they came roaring back. The Democrats... Well let's just say that Mr. Clinton never really did much for his eight years in office for all his mis-adventures. Jimmy Carter will go down in history as the worst president ever for his blunders in Iran which by the way, set up the current situation in the middle east. I would have to say that the Democrats after Lyndon Johnson are not really very effective any more.

Everyone said the same thing about Carter. He was a heck of a personable guy, but he was a disaster as president. Everyone thought he single handedly ended the Democrat party. But in fact it was his destruction of the party that lead to the DNC casting off its divisive elements and unting them for the first time in 50 years. Like a phoenix a stronger party rose from the ashes of what Carter did to them.

What really freaks me out... is that the McCain campaign had so much fearmongering, that John McCain actually had to defend Barack Obama at a town hall meeting, in front of all his own frantic followers. Some of those people, and their reactions actually kind of scared me, a little bit.

Well, yah.

Who makes up the heads of the Republican party, by and large? The wealthy, financially independents of America. These people got their wealth by any means necessary (or inherited it from relatives who did the same), so why would their attitude about anything else in life be any different?

The GOP isn't what it used to be. Its not about small government anymore and upholding the original constitutional means... Its about power and control.

the republican party will never be history because the american public would rather believe a lie than to face the truth and there will always be republicans to lie to them.

You have the wrong party, The ends justify the means is a credo in the Democratic party. And they have already proven they will go to any lengths to gain and hold political power.

What "professional politician" doesn't do ANYTHING to win elections? If you think that the left doesn't do that at all, then you're sadly mistaken.
