Front loaders are typically more energy efficient. They use substantially less water, less detergent and wash much better by tumbling the clothes, rather than beating, stretching and twisting them. One other thing I forgot to mention is that the front loader is much more quiet and smooth. It doesn't shake around like a top loader does.
Hope this was helpful :<)

Front loaders have been considered better for some time because the tumbling action is more effective than the agitator in a top loader. They also use less water. However, the Maytag Neptune top loader does not use a conventional agitator rather there are two counter rotating "wheels" recessed into the side of the tub. This washer combines the efficiency of the front loader with the convenience of the top loader. I have one and it does a very good job. It weighs the load and uses only as much water as is needed to clean the clothes.

front loaders use 15 to 20 gallons of water per cycle and have spin speeds up to 1300 rpms. all front loaders are energy star rated.
top loaders use 40 to 50 gallons of water and spin maximum speeds of 500-600 rpms. they are not energy star rated.
of course front loaders are better!
front loaders have no agitators and use paddles to wash the laundry which means less wear and tear on the clothes. front loaders also have the biggest capacity 4.0 cub ft in an LG Tromm...a top loader washer is at biggest only 3.5 cub ft which means you can wash a nice sized comforter in a front loader!
front loaders will always be more energy efficent also. lg and samsung make their washers with direct drive motors...which means no belts and pulleys like the other brands have. being that the lg brands and samsung brands are missing these parts mean less vibration and energy consumption. also keep in mind that when you put a front loader on the highest spin speed it means that it will practically spin all of the water out of the clothes and save you drying time.
if you are looking for a washer that washes the most go with the whirlpool cabrio. it looks like a top loader but it is just like a front loader. it fits 4.5 cub ft of clothing inside and has spin speeds up to 1000 rpms! also it is energy star rated!

the front loading machines are nice but my sister has one and the rotor broke and when the repair person came out to her house to fix it the part that broke was plastic. I think if they are going to use cogs the parts need to be metal. Very expensive to have a brand new machine break after a year of use. My top load machine is not so pretty but it gets the job done and it's been working for years!

I like the front load because they are easier to move the laundry to a front load dryer. Just scoop out turn and put it in the dryer. One thing for sure, if you are looking to buy a new one...make sure you look into the rebates!! They are all over the place for the energy efficient ones. You can get a rebate from the manufacturer, AND often from your utility! I got some information on a site called www.getwithgreen.com. In the Rebates section.

At the top of the Yahoo; Ask/Asnser/Discover look right underneath those to Search for Questions; The question has already been answered time and again. It amazes me to find all the people who do not know this and keep asking the same questions over and over again.

Front loading machines are better because they are gentle on your laundry and wash with far less soap and are very efficient on electricity, Norman
