this word is of turkish origin as Leonarda said

we (in north Greece specially) use it when we love someone and we want to express warm feelings towards him/her !

In Greek language there are many turkish worlds (and vice versa!) and the reason is not only people from Pontus or Mikra Asia or from any part of Turkey, but the matter that we have been under turkish domination for 400 years as well and that made the two cultures mixed in many ways

Leonarda and Tolia could not be more right... There other similar words as tzieri'm etc that where and are used by greeks who's origins are from Minor Asia.
There has been a really big mixture of words, and some turkish words sound pretty much like greek words!

Greece was for many years under turkish conquer, so its natural to have adopted many turkish words. Yavri is a turkish word that means "my love, my soul", we use it for someone we love much its a sweet word especially used by mothers for their children or grandchildren. We use many other turkish words many of them have been also used in greek songs like "givaeri" that means "heart".

Yavri is a turkish word meaning little boy, or sth. like that, it's used to call a small child that you love. It is used by Greeks too, but it is turkish.

You will learn it(advanced subject) something too many years later. But he is not yavri, but elderly, young or 40s one.
