I have used glass test tube kits and the test strips. The test strips work fast and great. However, they are somewhat expensive.

When new and when you have kept them completely dry and free of contamination, yes. BUT... even humidity in the air can cause them to give poor results over time. A container is probably off a bit by the time you and half way through the bottle and off quite a bit when you have used 3/4 of them. Not to mention if you got wet fingers in the bottle or something.

Far superior are the liquid test kits. The are more reliable to begin with and keep their reliability to the last test unless damaged by heat ( very unlikely).

After careful testing in a lab, I saw no reason to buy strips, even price as most liquid kits work out to be cheaper per test. Not to mention the savings of buying refills.

It in no way ceases to amaze me how little "experienced" aquarists actual comprehend approximately water chemistry. Ghapy is quite precise, something of those posters have actual no clue what they are conversing approximately. GH, KH, SALT, and NO3 are completly ineffective in a freshwater tank...do no longer even waste a while testing them. I see many everybody is telling what a secure variety for NH3 is in a freshwater tank, yet in actual actuality, it particularly is secure at ANY point. era, so do no longer situation approximately it. PH should not be a situation until the tank turns into ok common so do no longer situation approximately it now, supply it some months. NO2 must be 0, no longer something extra. upload not extra fish until it comes right down to 0, it remains cycling. You do ought to get an Ammonia kit (NH3), it incredibly is the main poisonous chemical which could upward push in a fish tank. NH3 ought to consistently try 0 besides. stable success!!

Yes, for a certain period of time(several months) before they start giving faulty answers so the best bet is to get the liquid since they last much longer.
