I have a Cavalier 98 with 150000 miles, i have noticed that about a week ago the check engine sensor was on when driving my car, however I saw that when the car is full of fuel, the sensor goes of, that didn't happen before, so i dont know what is happening, the car runs great, however yesterday i was driving the car and suddenly it began to behave as if there was a problem with the fuel, like the motor wasn't getting enough fuel, and the car was lossing power, I saw the sensor and i saw that the check engine sensor was blinking, i stop the car and turned it off, to see possible damage in the engine, i didnt see nothing so i continue my way and the check engine sensor stop blinking but continue to be turned on, today i fill my car with gas and the check engine sensor is again off.

Any Ideas?

Sorry for my pour English

It could have been just a small thing like not having your gas cap on tight. I did that before and I freaked out because my Cavalier had the same light come on. I took it to my local car parts specialist (Auto zone) and they checked the diagnostics. The guy walked back to my gas cap, opened the door, tightened the cap and when I started my car, it was fine. When you got gas the 2nd time around, maybe you tightened the cap correctly this time. It could also have been bad gas or water in your tank. Regardless, I would go get the code checked in your car to see if there really is anything wrong.

Getting a diagnostic would be your best bet. Also, your air intake is another area I'd look at. Make sure your air filter is cleaned every 5000 or so. When your fuel pump goes out you will know, because the car will not even stay running. Make sure you have the right gap in your spark plugs also, your car may be running too lean, or getting too much air in the gas mixture, check your throttle valve sensor make sure its working Good luck

It could be two issues. The first being a dirty fuel filter. Replace the fuel filter. If that does not correct the issue, then replace the fuel pump.

Have your computer scanned for codes. You can get it done at a mechanic shop or at autozone for free.
