Here is my situation I am wanted to open a savings account with my significant other but he is in CA and im in MI. If I open an account here in MI is there a way that he can be added to the account without being here in MI. I know that I have service centers here in MI that any credit union member can go to, to do there banking . Can he go to a service center? I just want him to be able to deposite money into the account.

Depends on which credit union. If they do they will give you a form to fill out. He doesn't need to be on the account to deposit money though. Call the credit unions and they will help you. I know if a credit union is not in your state and you need to make a deposit you can do so at other credit union ATM's the credit union you use will give you a list.
Best wishes.
Wescom is a credit union in California.

The second link is to look at locations of credit unions.

He does not need to be on the account to deposit money into the account...if he wants to be on the account then the bank should beable to add him to the account without him being there by mailing him a copy of the signature card and having him maill a copy back with his drivers license.

You can try to find a credit union that has branches in MI and CA but that is highly unlikly.

Only a few federal credit unions will have branches in multiple states (Navy Federal for example) and they may not have branches where you need them.

Your credit union will be able to mail him a signature card to add him to the account. He will need to have his signature notarized; then he just mails the card back to your C.U.

As for depositing money into your account, that might be done through a full-service ATM machine. You will need to get an ATM account and make sure he has the card. Double check with your Credit Union; I am not sure if all institutions allow for out of state deposits (even through other credit unions).

The best bet is to ask someone at your credit union how this can be accomplished. If they can do it, they will have the most efficient way to do it.

Good luck (and happy depositing)!

Yes, it is possible, & with the easy joint-account settings and interactive web options provided by many credit unoins these days, its really easy to do it. I, actually, just opened a new savings account with ING Direct this morning, with 4.5% APY, its great & they also had a joint option, & I did contemplate for a moment if I wanted to include my girlfriend, but then went on with the single account access option...try it, or any other good CUs like DCU etc. Good luck, & remember that you could never be too careful with your money...
