Yes, I believe it does. Cubby, who referred to the dove coming back, is kinda right. When I went through something like this a couple years ago, I realized my mentality needed to change from "hoping the dove would return" to "realizing the dove probably will not return". I could only let go if I was prepared to accept that I would never, ever see that dove again. If I held out hope, it was not letting go, and I was not healing.
This is probably true in romance or anything else. You cannot say to have "let go" unless you are fully prepared to "give up". Sometimes this is a sad reality, but sometimes it is necessary.

Letting go. It is difficult for us in so many ways and on so many levels. Yet life calls upon us to do it, over and over again. Letting go is part of our growth process. My mom use to always tell me that when a door closes a window opens somewhere. It means to surrender something. Meaning of Surrender is to give over or resign (oneself) to something, as to an emotion: surrendered himself to grief. It is when you accept something. We cannot move on to the new while continuing to cling to the old. So do you have to give up. Unfortunately that is part of letting go. The hardest part of love is letting go. Unfortunately everyone has had to let go of something or someone at one time or another in their lives. I know how hard that can be so good luck.

No ...giving up means quitting...letting go means that sometimes things will not change for the better or you can not help someone or it just was not meant to be ......and at some time people need to fly on their own....

Not necessarily.... actually, letting go to me means accepting something. Whatever the truth may be, you're accepting something to be a truth, therefore letting go of what you once thought was a truth to begin with.

It means that you aren't going to let it bother you. Much more important than giving up or quitting.

Not for me... for me it's the EXACT opposite of giving up!
To me it means you're giving the most anyone can, by letting go.
