my mom wont let me go hang out with my friend at all now this week because i was with my friends, and we rode our 4 wheeler on the road without helmets (and in tennessee you cant ride 4 wheelers on the rode, and are required to wear a helmet if your under 18. so do you think my mom is over reacting? it was just a small law we broke.

It wouldn't have been so small if you got pulled over...

She is doing this as a warning - to prevent you from doing it again (and possibly getting a ticket - or MUCH worse)

Parents are SUPPOSED to do things like this - next time, just don't get caught - by her OR the cops ;););)

It wouldn't seem like a small law if you ended up in the ER with a brain bleed after the 4 wheeler hit a rock and turned over. Your mom is looking out for your safety which is what a mom is supposed to do. Count your blessings that you have a mom that cares about you. You will understand someday if you ever become a parent.

Actually yes it is. Look up head injuries as a result of not wearing a helmet. Even if you are careful, it is still a powerful machine. You took a big gamble not wearing a helmet, that gamble is your life.

Safety precausions are in place simply because people got hurt or killed because of not doing them.

Please do some research about head injuries and you will see my point.

your mom don't give a crap that you broke a law she is worried that you could have been killed by not following the law. let me tell you something. 4yrs ago my husband and i were in the mountains riding and he flipped the four wheeler my sister was behind us she said my head bounced off of a log twice. i don't know because i was passed out and not breathing at the time. i was not breathing due to just having the wind knocked out of me but when i came to i was not rite i was talking crazy seeing pink elephants and stuff like that. i got to the hospital and they told me that i had a concussion but i was going to be fine and the ONLY THING THAT SAVED MY LIFE OR KEPT ME FROM BEING IN A COMA WITH BRAIN TRAUMA IS MY HELMET so follow the law and give your mom a kiss for caring about you. its your life she is worried about ......

A law, no matter how small, is still a law. If you were caught you could've been fined or worse, and it those problems would be brought upon your mother, seeing how she is your legal guardian because you are not yet an adult by law.

It's also a matter of safety, she was probably concerned about you because you did not take proper safety actions. If there was an accident you could've gotten seriously injured and all parents would be concerned for their children. It's a parent's job.

She is NOT over reacting ...my mom is a freak about ATV safety and she probably would have done worse if she caugh tme doing something like that. I have learned to appreciate how much she cares about me, no matter how annoying it can get. Just try to visualize it as an act of love, not a punishment ( cleshay, I know how lame that sounds.)

You should of been supervised while riding, and if you were being supervised and still didn't have to wear your helmet thenthe parents were wrong. Your parents should supervise while you are with you are with your friends. But you will probably have to show your parents that they can trust you to do what is right before they let you hang out with them without supervision. That is how I would handle it with my kids anyway.

I don't think it is about breaking the law. I think she is concerned for your safety.
