If someone tried to take his/her own life without succeeding, will they be charged with attempted murder afterwards?

commiting suicide is a moral issue at best. but, if you did survive an attempted suicide no you would'nt be charged with a crime but you would be sent inpatient for observation and monitoring by a psychiatrist and mental health staff until you are no longer a threat to yourself or to others.

No. Murder is defined as killing another person. Perhaps you can make an argument for attempted murder if the person was schizophrenic.

There are no US states where suicide is illegal. And only two where attempted suicide is still punishable.

But it's not attempted murder unless you try to kill someone else.

No , but they would be charged with something as the excuse to get a court directed mental health assessment.

coragryph is mistaken: Attempted suicide CAN'T be a crime if suicide is not a crime. Granted, it is not possible to punish anyone that actually commits suicide, but that doe not mean it is legal.

Its attempted suicide....murder is killing someone else.
