I know it is hard, I have moved away from the people I know lots of times. It is never easy.
The one girl said she likes to look at pictures of home. That is nice sometimes, but I don't think it really helps things in the beginning. I think it just makes it harder. That's just me.
What to do then? Well, you didn't mention how old you are, so I don't know if you are a kid or an adult, so I just will give you some ideas and if they don't apply, or you can't do it because you are a kid, maybe someone else will get to see it and it will help them too, eh?
Okay, first thing I would do is strike up a conversation with a neighbor when I see them outside. Just be friendly and outgoing and say something like, "hey, I am new around here, can you tell me any fun stuff to do here?" or something like that.
Also, if you are a church-goer, GO! This is a wonderful way to meet new people and get some friends. They often have activities going on throughout the week, so attend those too. Just get out and have some fun.
Go to the Chamber of Commerce and ask what kind of stuff is going on in town for people your age. Are there any clubs? Any monthly activities?
If you are an adult, you can maybe get a friend at your job or if you don't have a job, maybe you should get one even just part time so that you can get some socialization.
That is all I can think of right now. I have tried all of these and they really work quite well. You have to be outgoing though. You can't just be a quiet little mouse hiding over in the corner. Get involved.
Oh yeah, that reminds me. VOLUNTEER! Look for things you can volunteer at. Even if you don't get a friend from there (which you probably will) but even if you don't, you will feel better about yourself because you helped someone else. Works every time!
Good luck and I hope for you that you will have so many friends you won't know what to do with them all soon!

I know it is not easy to be a newcomer. But you need to get over it. Try to get new friends, try to get yourself busy, and try to let go of the past. I am not telling you to forget about all of those people from your old town. You can still give them a call once in a while or send them emails. It will get easier as time goes by. Right now, you don't know anybody and you are not familiar with your surroundings. But sooner or later you will get some friends and you will know the area well. You feel like an outsider when other people around you talk about some place or some activity that you have never heard of. Get your behind up and join the conversation. They will be happy to show you around.

That's a tough one... You don't really cure home sickness, but with a little effort and some attitude, you learn to find beauty in the new place. You learn to make new friends, which of course, never substitute old friends, but they make things better. Try going out during weekends, get to know the place, maybe a small coffee shop that has a homey feeling or a fun club, whatever your style, a park, and start to meet people, and in a little while, you'll feel a lot better.
BTW, internet is such a great invention, as chatting with your people makes everything better.

Think of where you met your old friends. If you're into crafts, you can chat with people at Michaels. Libraries, stores, etc. Do you play tennis? Go bat a ball against the backboard and chat with some folks at the park. DO be careful about meeting strangers, of course. Recreational centers have classes- ping pong, arts/crafts, etc. See what local programs are offered. Take neighborhood walks and meet your neighbors! Good luck.

Start by finding the nearest library or branch, call to find out what you need and go get your library card. More importantly, while there ask the librarian about resources to find local groups that meet for purposes that either meet your need (newcomers) or match your previous interests (hobbies, church, recreation and sports.) If you like movies see if there are movies that are more of a social activity than a common showing like old movies at the museums, theme movies by groups (like nature, skiing). If you are into mild sports and don't mind the connection look for YM/WCA and church groups that have co-ed sports events like volleyball, walking, jogging or simply social "meet people your own age" events.

I don't think there is anyway to cure it right away. But what always helps me is being outside... getting involved with activities in which you might meet other people, calling your friends and family. Just don't sulk and stay indoors.. This feeling is a difficult one.. feels as though you are alone.. but this will pass in a short amount of time. Good luck.

Spend sometime outside..on the porch.. or on the steps of your door.. and look around..
Look at your surroundings, but try not to compare it to your old neighborhood... just try to appreciate everything around you.. from the smell of the air up to the grooves in the street floor. Who knows? You might find yourself enjoying this new experience and actually meet someone walking on the street (who's a neighbor, of course)
Don't rush your adjustment.. it's not necessary... You just have to try and see the bigger picture of this new neighborhood.. so look.. and listen.. :)

Well you should hang outside and get to know the neighbors. Anythings better than staying on the computer 24/7!

Get involved in activities that interest you, whatever they happen to be. You will meet people with similar interests and make friends. I took a pottery class and have met a lot of nice people.

Try going for a walk in your neighborhood, each time you pass someone give them a big smile and a nice greeting. You should have several new friends in no time.
