Sleep (literally) varies with the physiology of an individual, as well as their emotional state. Aside from any circumstantial issues, some people get by easily with a slim 4 to five hours, & others need at least 8. Deep sleep is the best, as that's when we're in our dream state, & dream deprivation can take its toll. When under a great deal of stress, I've known people who could sleep 17 or so hours straight, who would normally require only 5. Yet, your second question makes me wonder if you mean this in a metaphorical context? If that's true, I believe we can only awaken ourselves.

yes. we need enough rest yet that has its limits. if we are deep sleepers we sometimes need someone else to help us get up and face the day and the wordl.sleeping is part of what a human being is supposed to go through since we need rest yet messing up your sleeping pattern is not good.sleeping makes you do something good w/ our lives and no it does not waste time or life but rather gives you rest and yes we can be awakened rt. especially from a deep dream

Ah, "life is but a dream" (from an old song). I would say that, without proper sleep, people won't come "into their powers".
Sleeping is like a computer doing defrag, debugging, disk cleanup and all that combined. It is a necessity. It also conects us to the "other worldly".
