Geez...that really IS a high idle! I'm no mechanical guru, but I think it might have something to do with the timing. You have to have a mechanic set the timing for you, which, I believe resets the idle.
I hope you have this taken care of soon. Having your car idle that high puts unnecessary strain on the engine and probably wastes gas to boot.

Sounds like your IAC idle air control valve is bad.Have a local auto shop check the valve and replace if ness.That should correct your idle problem.Hope this helps.

This seems similar to what my Mazda did recently. It used to be able to accelerate and decelerate at 2-3,000 rpms uncontrollably, and of course, while I was in traffic. They replaced my entire throttle body and knock on wood, no problems since. Good luck!

Check your distributor if theres an adjustment bolt, I would reset the timing.

Throttle position sensor is shot, or linkage is sticking.. juice it up with wd-40!

check throttlebody gasket spay gasket wwith carb cleaner if thottle flucuates there is your problem
