Be it a bakery, a restaurant, or a catering business. Just wondering what the laws are that I have been unable to find. I know in some states you can if you have separate cooking facilities. Please answer with facts. I have quite a bit of experience in the restaurant industry, but not enough money to buy a new location. If you ask a question as an answer, I will try to answer it with a reply, so check back.

You can't legally sell food you cook at home. My brother and his wife made pies at home then sold them in a restaurant but without the health inspections and certifications it was illegal.
One women I knew sold lunches door to door in offices. She had two ice chest on a hand cart filled with beverages in one and salads, sandwiches and cookies and things in the other. She rented a tavern kitchen early in the morning to make the food.
I heard of a place that rents kitchen time like a coop so people can make food that are street vendors.

Check with your local environmental services dept. ie.the health department. They will give you all the guidelines.
Most ,if not all, states require you to have A separate kitchen
to prepare food to be offered to the public, for not only the obvious sanitary reasons but also to facilitate regular inspections to assure safe food handling guidelines are being
followed.
A number of states however do not allow any kind of food to be prepared in ones home even if there is A 2nd kitchen.
hope this helps

Talk to your local County Health Department. They should be able to direct you to the answers you need. You will most certainly need a health inspection and most likely seperate cooking facilities.
