I always thought Jimmy Carter was a fine individual but had failings as President. His was the first election I voted in and I voted for him versus Ford. He is an honest man but didn't work well with Congress. The Iran hostage affair didn't help him much either. He did get Egypt and Israel to talk though. It seems he has done better as an ex President. Remember also that his second election was the start of the Reagan years.

I lived, as an adult and member of the military, during President Carter's term in office. I concluded two things about the man:
1. He was probably the most morally straight person to ever hold the office.
2. He was a complete incompetent. He was in so far over his head that he hasn't been able to dig himself out yet.
Basically he was a moral moron...

Er....Hon, there are a great many people who love and respect Jimmy Carter. (Not the Zionazis, though.) Carter is that rare political figure that has become far more well thought of OUT of office than IN it. Can anyone imagine either of the Bushes initiating a program to build homes for the poor?
I suspect that so many neocons dislike Carter because he had the stones to write a book about the evils of Zionism, and that book spent many weeks on the New York Times' bestseller list. What don't they want the American public to know, hmm?

He also di a fine job while president, but was far ahead of the main stream at the time. If more people would have heeded his messages at the time, we wouldn't be in the shape we are in now. To bad there aren't more like him today. Bluntfully and sometimes painfully honest. Those type politicians don't stand a chance in this atmosphere of greed, intolerance, and lack of motivation to do the right thing.

Carter is a good man, but not a very good president, unfortunately. You can look up the history of his administration on your computer's search engine.

I'm admittedly biased because Jimmy Carter was the first president I voted for and the one I admire most since. Just for the sake of comparison, Carter vs. Bush:
--CARTER: Chose NOT to invade a soverign nation (Iran), even though he knew his actions would cost him a second term, He followed his convictions and kept his word. Only later did the agreement between Carter and Khomeini become public. Carter agreed not to attack Iran if Khomeini would take custody of the hostages (from student revolutionaries) and guarantee their safety. The main reason why all 52 hostages were returned safely instead of in body bags was because he 'stayed the course' and SAVED lives by doing so.
--BUSH: Attacked a sovergn nation (Iraq) without provocation, under the guise (lies) of WMD. Now he and Congress are holding Iraq hostage, using the Iraq Oil Law to take their oil as a condition for funds to rebuild their country and get us out.
http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/oil/irqindx.htm
--CARTER: Thirty years ago, Carter's Energy Policy focused on alternative energy sources to reduce our dependence on OPEC, with incentives to individuals to insulate homes and install solar systems.
--BUSH: Stated that our energy problems today were because we didn't have an Energy Policy before. Yes, Reagan/Bush, Sr. dismantled the one Jimmy Carter had implemented 30 years ago. Bush's 'new & improved' Energy Plan provides $8 billion dollars in 'welfare' payments to the oil business, and rebates to buy gas-guzzling Hummers.

--CARTER: Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development."
--BUSH: "Has made the world a more dangerous place"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4185205.stm
--CARTER: The author of 21 books, many of which are now in revised editions.

--BUSH: Reads books, sometimes upside down

OK, that last one was a low blow, but I said I was biased. Carter vs. Bush... decide for yourself who's the better president, Carter did have his faults. However, as a man of intelligence, principles and integrity... Bush can't hold a candle to Carter!!

Carter is a peach.....A Georgia Peach! A lot don't like him because he was probably the most honest President we ever had. They don't like him because he actually practices his Christianity. He didn't bomb the heck out of a country without any provocation, he was very intelligent, A nuclear Physicist; people don't like smart Presidents either. I can go on and on, but you get my gist. Carter is a way cool dude.

Because honesty isnt respected in politics. It doesnt get the headlines, it doesnt drive people to vote for opponents out of anger, and it doesnt stuff wallets of the rest of the dishonest folks....
So they dont like em.

it doesn't matter what a president does afterwards. Hell, Bush could be sainted..but he had a crappy presidency.
Carter has no room to yell about bush's presidency, considering Carter's is the worst of the latter half of the 20th century
