The more you have in common with someone you love, the better chance you have of being able to relate to that person on a long term basis. I think that it is very important for a healthy relationship, that spiritual beliefs and political beliefs are compatible. They don't have to be exactly the same, but there has to be some common ground. And, there have to be enough other things in common, even little things. But, some differences make life more interesting. The differences, though, should compliment each other. *sm*

I think any relationship that's going to stand a snow-balls chance in he**, you have first and foremost have to establish common ground. Such as religion, interest, likes, dislikes, ect. ect. Then you must keep open COMMUNICATION, without a doubt. Without this communication you may as well just throw the rest of those things out the window!

Politics, but not as big a deal as religion.
Attitudes about children.
Good question gets a star.

you need the same basic core values: capacity to love and desire to work together to make things work. You don't need to agree on all issues, but you need to be able to listen to each others points of view with respect and acceptance.

Seriously: language. I got together with a guy who knew a handful of English words. I spoke more Spanish than he did English. I tried to make it work, but it just didn't. It couldn't.
