yes
first of all, most athletes go to a weight room to work out. Cheerleaders go to the weight room, work out, and then go lift people who lift weights.
We move and yell words at the same time, most people aren't coordinated enough to do that.
We flip, handspring, cartwheel, and layout. If you don't think that takes athleticism, something is wrong.
we perform routines that have the ability of making people pass out, and are dangerous enough to kill someone if not executed properly.
And we look good while we do this too.
Personally I think cheerleading is more of a sport than any other sport out there.

Yes, I consider cheering a sport
1)It takes just as much hardwork as everything else
2) just like football or basketball you can get scholarships for college from it!
3) Competitions you earn points just the same
I could go on and on but it would be pointless I am sure...
but just for fun here are some sweet quotes:
~Cheerleaders don't lift weights, we lift people
~In cheerleading you see everything differently, a Liberty is no longer a statue in NY, A pyramid is no longer something you find in Egypt, and jumps are more than a simple game of leapfrog.
~All you lose when you drop the ball in football, is the ball!
~Flying is the second best thrill to a flyer, being caught is the first! :)

No. No doubt it requires some athletic ability, especially the stuff that's done today, but the scoring system is rather contrived when it is done in competition. Besides, the name of it is "cheerleading" -- the origins are to cheer for those actually playing the game.
I know there is a certain amount of prestige to being a cheerleader, but I'd rather see a daughter of mine actually participate in sports.

yea i consider it a sport. they have practice just like every other sport and cheerleaders work hard. we condition and do a lot of dangerous stuff.
tons of people get hurt every year because something went wrong, some have to have surgery and somethings can be life threating if it goes really wrong.
cheerleaders go to the gym, they have camp (which can be in 120 degree weather in the hot sun), they spend their time praticing, they stay in shape, cheerleaders must have muscle to be doing anything
they cheer on the sports and almost always get nothing in return
they dont just "dance and swing their pompoms up and yell random words". it takes a lot of time to get that dance down right and not mess it up. lots of coordination needed.
i hate it when people say its not a sport.
yeah there are probably cheer squads that dont do much but most do stunts and other things
so its a sport

its a sport, even if they are only cheering on the sucky high school football team. No matter what anyone says, it is a sport, and people should have the same respect for them as they do for say, football. I'm not a cheerleader, and I'm personally not fond of the cheerleaders in my school, but I still support the saying that cheerleading is in fact a sport, whether anyone likes it or not...

I fully consider cheerleading/dancing a sport. You use your athletic abilities to do backflips/toe touches/front flips/cartwheels/herkies those kind of things.Plus,[depending on the school] you get to cheer/play for a part for the regionals/sectionals and finals. And also,it takes just as much dedication and practice like regular sports.

Cheerleading requires alot of atheltic ability. However there is no interaction between opponents. The scoring is also completely subjective. I say it requires alot of talent, but it's not a sport, and it not entertaining.

well it depends on if you are talking about sideline or competitive cheer....i would say that sideline isnt a sport but if you are talking about competitive i would say that that is a sport becuase it takes a lot of strength and flexability to do a lot of that stuff...you dont see many other athletes picking up other people do you.
