Not only were people afraid of Y2K, they also never heard of Al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden. Yes, times were simpler then. Gas was half the price it is now, and going to the airport wasn't such a pain in the a**.

Safer?
Not unless you think ignorance makes you safe. Pretty much the same problems seven years earlier. The difference was that fewer people listened or followed the news from certain places.
Easier?
Harder to sell an oil war than it was a couple of years later.
Diplomacy was easier, the US still had some credibility, a lot of countries actually believed the US when they said things about human rights, freedom, or terrorism.
How? How what?

Many things were a lot cheaper, that was only 7 years ago,its scary by the time some children grow up ,say 18 or 21 you will have to work two jobs just to eat. Some crimes were less violent then and gas was much cheaper.People were nicer and you felt less hurried, only my opinion of course.

It was easier for me because I hadn't graduated high school yet. There was a lot of news reports about y2k. The news reports on a lot of stuff, except it isn't about y2k anymore.

It was like the world in 1000. Its the same as it is today in fact. How, you ask? How is the sun? How are you? How come this question? I'm not asking in the sense of this being answered.
