Hi,
If your songs are in My Music or under My Documents, chances are you will loose them. I would recommend that you should back up songs. If you have another partition on your hard drive (D: drive etc.), then put the songs there. Or simply burn CDs or DVDs for them. After that format your c: and install XP. Reason? Upgrade from Windows ME to XP has failed 97% of the times. Also, if you have not bought the CD for XP, I would suggest checking to make sure its not an upgrade CD.

No, when you install a new operating system your computer will be completely cleared out. It will be a brand new computer. You can however back up your music with a removable storage device such as an ipod.. external Hard drive or burn them all off to discs.

Well if you do the inplace upgrade to xp you'll save everything, but if you do a fresh install of xp you'll lose everything. So i would simply pop in the xp cd and let it upgrade.

The easiest way to make sure you have them is to burn them onto a CD or DVD. With ME it's best to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch to make sure you get all the BS from ME off your computer.
