-- William Allin

Be-Do-Have (from Rich Dad, Poor Dad book). In order to achieve or have something, you must first be the type of person that will be able to achieve that.
You simply change to BEcome someone who has a goal. You must DO things to reach your goal. Then you'll have it.
Most people skip the 'BE' part and expect to have by just doing (one thing).
I know...it's not a quote, but it teaches a great concept.
Or, you can tell them that high school is not just to learn the specific material/lessons taught. But to be able to adapt on having to do the different tasks associated with doing well in school. It's about being fluid.

there's a scene in dead poet's society with Robin Williams that I love and he reads a poem by Whitman:
Oh me, of life
of the questions of these recurring, of the endless trains of faithless of the cities filled with foolish.
What good, amid these? Oh me, of life
Answer: Identity, existence, that the powerful play of life goes on and you may contribute a verse, what will your verse be?
And if you don't teach english it's always good to bring up american poetry in other classes. I say this poem on occasion and I teach chemistry.
Oh, and that's just what I remember, it's not the exact line.

"Teacher? Teacher? You want to be a teacher! Honey, a prostitute earns twice more.
Just kidding! That's just something I saw on "Whose like is it anyways"
but here are one
“There's a big world out there. Bigger than prom, bigger than high school, and it won't matter if you were the prom queen or the quarterback of the football team or the biggest nerd. Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it.”

You know the saying, "Great minds think alike"? Well, I tell my students that "Great minds think for THEMSELVES." They all have good brains in their heads and they need to use their own brain not the brain in their friends' heads.
