It is for Daryle Kile. There's a small black & white DK sign under the 1997 NL Central Division Champions banner to honor his passing.

Daryle Kile was drafted by the Houston Astros and played his first 7 years with the Team. 1997 was the last year he played for the Astros helping them get to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. After 1997 playoffs he became a free agent signing with Colorado and then later traded to St. Louis.

So even though he wasn't with the team when he past away, his death still had an impact on the Houston Astros organization.

That sign is in honor of former pitcher Darryl Kile, an Astros draft pick (1987) who played for the team from 1991-97. He was with the St. Louis Cardinals on a visit to the Chicago Cubs when he died in his hotel room from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2002. He still had a lot of friends in Houston, and the team felt it was appropriate to honor him with the plaque. The Cardinals also have a plaque for him, which has been moved to the new park.

In addition to many friends in baseball, Kile left behind his wife and three young children -- twins, age five at the time, and a baby son. While they should be set for life financially, those little ones never really got to know their daddy, and as a daddy myself that makes me sad for all of them.

It means the same thing as the DK at Busch Stadium. It's for Darryl Kile. Most remember him as a Cards pitcher but also played for the Astros.
