Frisbee, Baby!

Or, well, the E-Bay idea is a good one, too.

Then I'd try and find a tactful way to let the gifter know that their taste in music sucks.. I mean to let them know what kind of music you enjoy listening to, so this sort of dilemma can be avoided in the future.

*edit*
I forgot to mention: here's what I do with AOL and other "unwanted" CDs.. Proceed with caution and always use eye protection. You will need a styrofoam ball from the craft store: size of your choice (the denser ones work better), several unwanted CDs, tacky glue or similar adhesive, small plier-type nippers, eye protection, and time on your hands.

First, use a razor knife and a metal ruler to score the CD into 1/4" strips, then nippers to separate the strips. Use the nippers again to cut the scored strips into 1/4" squares. When you have a bunch of small shiny squares, begin gluing them onto the styrofoam ball, starting at the "equator", and working your way to the top and bottom. (at the ends, you may need to cut some squares in half or quarters, to fill in oddly shaped/sized gaps.)

And Voilà! You have created a lovely disco ball of your very own. If you have a small motor, like from an old nursery light that rotates or something, you can mount your disco ball onto it, shine a flashlight on it, turn off all the other lights and gaze into the gold-lamé age of Disco.

I would probably take them graciously and say nothing, UNLESS they are my good friends and know I *hate* that band, but still buy the CD for me anyway (unless of course they got it for me on purpose as a joke -- then I would hope they would be able to return it for me, or take it off my hands and give me another CD I would actually appreciate).

If I couldn't exchange or return the CD to a store, I'd find someone to sell it to, or if I get desperate I would give it away to someone or to Goodwill so it finds it's way into the hands of someone who will make use of the CD.

Gather them all up, put them in a stack outside the backyard, put some gasoline on them, get a match and light it up and burn it. Enjoy the show :)
OR
Make a draino bomb, put the cds inside a trash can full of water, activate the draino bomb and put it in the trash can, RUN AWAY FAST AND FAR! Sit back and enjoy the show of seeing the trash can explode along with the cds (could be dangerous though)

It depends who gave them to you and how big is your attic or basement. I happen to own some of those. They have never been played, but the person who gave them to me is dear to me. Stop and think... do you have ANY OTHER JUNK you don't use? If you do, why not the cd's? Now, if the person is not of consequence, take them to cd warehouse and get a buck for each and get a new cd you like.
'nough said.

If they were unopened I'd return them and get what I wanted. Otherwise, maybe you could sell them on eBay. If they're used cd's just find somebody else who doesn't know the other person and give them the cd's. Bad cd's are like fruitcake!

If I couldn't sell them or exchange them for something good, I'd give them away to someone who does like that kind of music. Unless, of course, it was rap (which is not worthy of being classified as "music", as far as I'm concerned!)....
in which case, I would toss the offensive discs into the garbage where they belong!!!!!

at first i was thinking of making them into stuff.. like toys... or some sweet awsome invention. or make a hover craft. or somthing sweet and awsome.. but if you're broke i suggest selling them for half or a bit more (just not the same price because nobody would buy it, they'd buy the original...) the original price to a friend.
