my freind is going to publish a childrens book and she cant think of how to draw her cover.
are children more attracted to:
-colored pencil drawings
-marker drawings
-black and white
-animae style characters
-realistic looking characters
-cartoonish/realistic
-cartoonish/humor/funny looking
-clean simple covers like the cover of the book stargirl
-..any more styles we didnt cover!
(the age she is aiming for is from 1st grade to 4th grade)

She should ask some children in this age range to draw some pictures for her based on the story. She could offer them a variety of materials and let them choose what they want to work with. It could be a combination art lesson and literacy lesson. Perhaps it could be a contest. She could choose pictures for the front cover and back cover with t he prize being an autographed copy of her book.

She could contact local summer day care programs and ask them to let her present her lesson and story to their school age day care group. I'm sure they would be quite pleased to have an author come in and present such an activity.

I am going as Magenta (the maid ) from the Rocky Horror

For that age level, I'm thinking the cartoonish, funny looking thing is the best option, with markers. Anime is more in these days, even with younger kids, so that's a good bet too. But no black and white. Color is good. Color is more likely to attract a young reader. It's so cool that your friend is illustrating and writing. I wish her good luck!

Children are attracted to lots of color and cartoons..always, in that age the big colorful not to confusing drawings are the best.

If she is the author of the book, the illustrator is assigned by the publisher - not the author. Pax - C
