Interesting answers... Well, let me put in my two cents' worth.

First off, the short answer to your question is yes. To give you an example, a newborn baby "knows" exactly what to do to suck milk from its mother's breast. The behavior is not learned at all, but inherited. it is, for lack of better words, genetically encoded. Other such behaviors are reproductive behavior in certain animals, like the mating dance in fruit flies.

But I suppose that there might be another aspect to your question that has to do with the old question of nature versus nurture. According to this dualism behaviors are either inherited and therefore based in biology (nature), or learned (nurture). For many decades the scientific community was divided over this issue, but as of late a consense has emerged. The clear answer to the question whether behavior is determined by nature or nurture is: both!

Let me explain this a bit. Of course there are inherited behaviors that are not learned (see above). Likewise, there are behaviors that are learned. For example, nut cracking in chimpanzees is a behavior that is learned by observation. But for the most part, behaviors have both aspects. Biology can very much determine whether a behavior is present in the first place and can subsequently be modified through experience. It can also determine the proclivity to learning new tricks. Some chimps therefore are more inclined to learn nut cracking faster and better than others, and the reason might very well be in their cognitive capabilities as a function of brain function.

The perhaps only academic field where you might still find the old and superfluous divide into nature VERSUS nurture is in sociology, which is probably due to sociologists not keeping up with the biological literature. (Pace, dear sociologists...)

I believe that this is absolutely true. I am not going to Analise the cross of the alleles, but rather I am going to trust reality examples. There are a lot of them. Those kids in my neighborhood are only 12 years old and they have a file with the police for arson, break-in homes, and vandalism. They don't come from professional parents. Their parents are uneducated and don't seem they care to control them. I conclude that the parents are not any better. I think it goes in the genes. It is a very difficult example to test it on mice. I think observing the human behavior is the best you can do.

Most are learned, but some must be inherited. I mean, if mental health issues are genetic, then some behavior patterns must be.

Yes! My daughter was never around her father for the first 6 years of her life but some of the things she does is just like him! There are times when I swear he is still in the room with us because she is so much like him! She has his goofy sense of humor, his facial expressions, and even his walk!

You mean like a homosexual man that actually has a child, the heterosexual way, the normal way, not in a test tube, but still maintains his homosexuality. No.

Behavior is learned. Homosexuality is learned.

yeah i believe it. My mom is always saying things like "Your father is the same way about that" like me my sister and my dad, when we are asked like what we want for dinner or w/e we'd just be like "um..i dont know u decide" so its pretty hard to figure out what we are going to do when its just the three of us. and so many other things like my sister has never used a public bathroom and my dad never uses them either

andmy parents are divorces and i spend most my time with my mom
