I am excited about the second baby of course, but I'm kind of concerned about the age diffrence. They'll probably never play together. Do you think they will ever be really close. My oldest is 12 now & he's a boy

It will be a different kind of closeness, but yes, they'll still be close. My youngest brother is 15 and a half years younger than me, and he and I are very close, just not in the same way as my oldest brother who is only 4 and a half years younger. Don't worry about it, if anything you'll get to avoid most of the fighting that takes place between siblings that are close in age. Congratulations and good luck:)!

First let me say congratulations!!! Then I will tell you I have 3 children 1 boy 24, 1 girl 22 then at the age of 43 I got pregnant with my 3rd child a boy age 4 now. My daughter and him are very close. Although he does not see his older brother often because he lives in another state they have a blast when they see each other. So you'll be fine. Good luck and stay healthy.

My children are 12 years apart, adn the oldest will be 13 1/2 years form the one due later this year. They arent as close as some siblings but she tries and the baby is young yet to really have a relationship with her.

My sister and I are 12 years apart and there is a total of 17 years from the oldest to the youngest. We are super close although she was like an only child, we all took care of her. She is now 19 and we are very close, like best friends. I could imagine being without her. Congrats! Don't worry- just enjoy!

I am closer in age to my mother (16 years apart) than I am to my youngest sister (17 years apart). Although in truth I have more in common with my second to youngest sister, who is only 3 years younger than me, I am still very close to my younger siblings. I think that when they are young it might be more of an issue than when they are in their teens and 20's or so, because how much the age difference matters really tapers off at that point. And even though they might be far apart in age, I think that they will still have a great bond. I see my brother (16 year age difference) more in a "son" type way because since I was so much older than him I had a bigger part in helping raise him, and I think the older one will be very protective of his younger sibling and be there to help teach him things along the way.

oh yeah, they can be close. my mom's best friend has a 22 year old boy, 14 year old boy, and a 5 year old girl, and both of her sons LOVED having a baby sister and they take her places, play with her, etc...they don't boss her around or ignore her or anything like some siblings do. i think the bigger the age difference, the closer they will be and much less "sibling rivalry"..i have 2 older brothers, 3 yrs older and 9 yrs older and i'm close with them both. especially if your new baby is a girl, i think your son will love having her around. he just might WANT to help. he might be a little jealous at first but he'll realize that you love him just the same.

good luck.

I think you will be fine. I have friends in a similar situation and the age difference has been a really good thing. The little one looks up too the older brother as a role model. And they have a very good relationship. Dont worry too much and let nature take its course. Congratulations and good luck.

Me and my middle sister are 11 years apart and my baby sister is 16 years younger than me. We get along great, I love them almost as if they were my own and they stay attached to me. In fact they will listen to me before they will my mother which I am pretty sure annoys her to some extent. I think your kids will be extreamly close if me and my sisters are any indication. I feel a strong urge to be very protective of them and they are very possesive of me. I think it will be the same for your two children. Good luck and congrats on the baby.

Don't worry!
I have a best friend who is 14 years older than her brother.
they are extremely close, especially since she helps her mom out alot with him. She loves him dearly and he loves her dearly because of the time they spend together. When caring for your baby, have your 12 yr old help you out. They will develop a close bond that way.

by the way, Congrats!

I am 42, and my brothers are 52 and 55. We weren't that close growing up, because they were out of the house and married by the time I was 8, but we are very close now. My mom did tell me that my brothers did help out with me, and of course when I was young they teased me like all siblings do, but I remember being happy with them.
