Well, we have to pay the bills somehow. Who's going to pay congress's salaries? But I wish they would find ways to raise money without taxing people for working or earning money.
I think taxing things that hurt people in any way is a good way, like tax tobacco and alcohol, legalize pot and tax that, tax gas-guzzling new cars but not a truck that's used for business,
add a little tariff to items imported from China. I do think that when it comes to paying for national security, those with the money should gladly pay for our defense, since they own most of the property.
They need to cut government waste, and stop making us the police of the world. We need to take care of things at home.
I would love to not have to pay any income taxes, but I work in education, so we do need funding. It does take money to run schools, especially when you're trying to educate EVERYBODY. Would you rather have lots of illiterate truant kids running around the streets all hours, which is what could happen if the "small government" gang hacks away too much at education funding.

The financial coffers of our govt. were supposed to be repenished by import and export tarrifs along with taxes on manufactured products shipped to other countries .Then when that wouldnt supply enough money to politicans that know no limits .Taxes were applied to corporate profits on products .When that still wouldnt supply govt. financial appetite it was shifted onto the backs of the people
The suppression of unnecessary offices, of useless establishments and expenses enabled us to discontinue internal taxes. These covering our land with officers and opening our doors to their intrusions, had already begun that process of domiciliary vexation which, once entered, is scarcely to be restrained from reaching successively every article of produce and property." --Thomas Jefferson: 2nd Inaugural"

"We are all the more reconciled to the tax on importations, because it falls exclusively on the rich, and with the equal partition of intestate's estates, constitutes the best agrarian law. In fact, the poor man in this country who uses nothing but what is made within his own farm or family, or within the United States, pays not a farthing of tax to the General Government, but on his salt; and should we go into that manufacture as we ought to do, he will pay not one cent." --Thomas Jefferson to Pierre Samuel Dupont de Nemours, 1811. ME 13:39

William Duane, 1811. ME 13:66
"The privilege of giving or withholding our moneys is an important barrier against the undue exertion of prerogative which if left altogether without control may be exercised to our great oppression; and all history shows how efficacious its intercession for redress of grievances and reestablishment of rights, and how improvident would be the surrender of so powerful a mediator." --Thomas Jefferson: Reply to Lord North, 1775. Taxes are fine. It's a privilege to live in a free society. Without taxes we have no defense or roads or much of anything else for that matter.

Income tax is simply a way to pay the interest on the national debt

Socialists... Anyone who believes that their good intentions should be accepted on faith and then forced upon everyone else, and those who cannot differentiate between voluntarily funded insurance and coercive appropriation... Oh, and those who just 'want' to be fed, clothed, and housed etc and refuse to acknowledge the means that provides this is called 'slavery'...
