I think you need to use some sort of micro SD card or usb cable ... could someone explain to me how it's set up/done?

Is there a specific thing I should look for when buying these items so I don't get ripped off (space for one thing, but anything else)? And what exactly do you use the usb cable for? THANK YOU!

EDIT 1: Also, I would like to know if you have to keep the sd card in the phone to play music, or does the phone store it in its memory? thanks!

Three ways.
1st Via bluetooth but transfer are slow and sometimes limited to size
2nd a USB card which you can buy for like less than 10 bucks off of Ebay and is cool but I find its harder to get the files you want on your phone to go in the right location. I do use it for ringtone transfers with BitPim.
3rd and the way I recommend the most is buying a memory card. I bought a 1gb microsd off of ebay for 30 bucks exactly, with shipping. You first insert the card into your phone to format it, then pop it in your computer and open the card, it already has the folders in it and I just put my music of pictures or files on it and pop it right back into my phone.

The LG chocolate will play MP3's as well as WMA. Although MP3's are larger in size (not by much) they are better in quality...

I DID NOT buy the music essential kit because you're limited to what Verizon will allow you to do with your phone/data. I saved like 13 dollars by buying the data cable, microSD card, and downloading BitPim for free...

If you have the SD card, you won't have to sync your phone to the computer, simply put it into your phone (like I previously stated) then put it in your computes card slot and copy and paste the music onto the card in the specified folder (should be "My Music")

You keep the card in the phone to play the music off of it (the songs are stored on the card, not your phone)

check on lg's site, or with the store you bought the phone... as for the actual method to attatch it, and software needed, i dont know much about the chocolate. a microsd is the way to go, as you can carry several, most of em around 2 gig! as for this, these usually come with an adapter, (looks just like a normal sd card with a slot in the top to put the mini card in), and you simply plug this into any sd card slot on the pc, and drag and drop your music. if you do not have an sd card slot, you can buy a reader (a usb device) that you simply plug into a usb slot and do the same - they are very cheap (saw one at wally world yesterday for 20 bucks) and should get you rolling!

u need aa micro sd card, a cable that connects ur pc 2 ur phone, and the drivers. all of which u can get in the music esetntials kit for the chocolate. after set-up with the cd, u use windows media player to sync ur music with ur phone. it converts somgs from mp3's into the wma format.
