I am looking into buying a laptop and I saw an Acer computer at the place I went. I have never seen that brand of computers so if you know anything about them, please tell me.

They are an established brand, big in Asia and Europe. From a poll on NBR:

View Poll Results: How would you rate the quality of the acers build?
Very Poor 55 10.56%
Poor 63 12.09%
Average 164 31.48%
Good 165 31.67%
Very Good 74 14.20%
Voters: 521.
(I bought one but brought it back because of poor screen quality)

Acer is an excellent computer brand. They have an average price for their computers, and they have a good name with most people. If I was buying a laptop at the moment, I might go with Dell, IBM or Acer. These are the best in my opinion.

Yes. They are good. They have been around a long time, but they're obviously not as big as HP or Dell. They're still one of the largest and they have pretty good value.

from what i have seen they are good laptops. then again concidering the hp's compaq's dell's gateways and so on acer doesn't have to work hard to beat them.

no. get an apple macbook. and dont listen to the people who say "you can do more on a pc than a mac." that is a lie. macs do twice as much as a pc. why? because you can install software called parallels or bootcamp (parallels is $80 and bootcamp is free), and run windows on the same computer. with parallels you can run windows at the same time as osx. with boot camp you can run windows by its self and when you want to go back to osx, you just restart. and with a macbook you dont have to worry about viruses. unlike pc's, when you get a macbook, it works right out of the box. no stting up software for hours. so please consider a macbook. trust me you wont regret it.
